<i>"Thanks again for being nice and respectful, not everyone is,lol."</i>

Respect and a simple lesson in "how things work" costs very little effort, as compared to starting a debate with a put-down one-liner, after all. I try to respond in the same manner the OP has done.

You should read some of my replies to the troll-spam commentary made by the pro-copyright nutjob brigade if you want to see my other side. BP

<i>"Thank you for actually saying something that even a blonde like myself can understand. :P"

Erm, I'm a blonde myself, albeit a male one. I fail to see how that would correlate. :)

But your point is well taken. As a general rule here on torrentfreak the pro-piracy/anti-censorship advocates tend to have a smattering of how the tech works and so we tend to assume everyone else does as well.

It's possible to make it harder for someone to break your wifi encryption but that assumes you know what you are doing. Which differentiates wifi encryption from a landline locked one where the protocols can usually be considered impregnable to any but the most stubborn attack.

Without going into too much tech - when you're using a wifi connection you have to basically re-transmit your passcode all the time. And so it tends to be a simple matter for anyone else with a wireless network card to listen in and eventually amass enough data to break the passcode.

With older encryption protocols (such as WEP) this happens rather fast. But there is no protocol in existence today which can be considered truly secure.
The easiest way the common user can up his/her protection against an attempt to hack the passcode this way is to ensure that the passcode is sufficiently long and comples - which is where the method breaks as I know of literally no "ordinary" people who want to try to remember a passkey which looks something like "Q45r&sNaG7P%teNDaK!$".
