Help! BitTorrent is slow… This is probably one of the most frequently asked questions I get about BitTorrent. Unfortunately there’s not some kind of magic trick that makes your torrents go through the roof. But you could take some simple steps to optimize your speeds.

Did you ever wonder what’s powering a site like The Piratebay? Take a look at their hardware. The web part runs on 2 and the tracker on 6 servers. But, as you may have noticed (search is down every now and then), they need even more to stay alive.

Tvtorrent.info makes browsing for mininova’s tv-torrents easier. They list all the tv-episodes from mininova. You can browse for fresch torrents or browse all the torrents from your favorite show. There’s also a link to the episode list included (epguides.com). Nice job.

Another great invention. The “Lamabox” (dutch) is the worlds first media player that supports p2p downloads. This neat gadget has a connection to all the big 2p2 networks so you’re able to download whatever you want directly onto it’s built in harddrive. Once the download is complete, you can watch it on your tv, or burn it onto a dvd.

Google is a great search engine, even for torrents. It’s a really old trick, but it can be quite useful sometimes. Just add “filetype:torrent” in google before your keywords and google wil find the torrent. So if you’re searching for a “harry potter” torrent you should type something like this: “filetype:torrent harry potter”.

The MPAA and Bram Cohen, founder of BitTorrent, are giving a press conference tomorrow. It looks like they finally reached an agreement. The two have been talking for a while about the plans of the MPAA to make an online movie distrubution model.
