Academy Award screeners on BitTorrent
The oscars are coming. Academy members (or/and other people) tapped in to the screener-distribution chain and posted torrents of copies of Syriana, Lord of War, Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride, North Country, and Memoirs of a Geisha, complete with “for your consideration” notices and studio IDs (link).
Since a couple of years Academy screeners and other promotional dvd’s contain a watermark so the leakers “can” be tracked. However, there are still a lot of screeners available through BitTorrent, other p2p networks, or even on Ebay. A simple search for dvdscr and you will be amazed what’s out there.
