From reading these comments didn’t realise some areas of the USA and Canada had such bad internet. Well I suppose it’s greedy companies to blame above anything.

In the UK Virgin Media has the best internet (don’t let BT says otherwise) but all companies here are unlimited data even on the cheapest deals. Limited data caps is redundant and should not be used at all, only speed should be managed which is fair enough.

Or even some ISPs in the United states for that matter. In my area (like much of the country), Sprint still only provides up to a little over 1M per second down, and that’s on a good day – typical speeds in most areas are around 200-600K per second down, and for people with cellular as their primary connection, bloated websites and the likes are just another challenge.

I fail to see how removing the ability to actually own the product will make anyone more likely to pay for it. GIMP is really really great for amateurs. I used to ‘acquire’ photoshop but now I see that I can do most of my work in GIMP. I use it for web buttons/graphics, simple photo cleanups/morphs, 2d game graphics content… For those jobs, it’s a pro tool anddd you don’t feel the pangs of guilt that comes free with photoshop.

When you buy a new version, couldn’t you sell the old one and do you absolutely need the very latest version?

Photoshop CS6 is currently “$625.00 & FREE Shipping,” I don’t know the US price but in Europe Photoshop CC subscription costs nearly $29.

It would take many years for the latest version to become completely outdated and you could use that as long as you like. If you don’t have the whole amount to buy the product then there are always ways to pay the price in smaller chunks.

They won’t see a drastic departure conversion of pirates to paying users until they adjust the cost. USD$50 per month is still too much to pay for something you get for free, provided you have minimal patience and gumption. Would I spend $600 a year on easily pirated software, when I could spend it on hardware or other durable goods or medical expenses etc? Nope. No logical imperative to do that.
