So much for the law protecting ‘local artists’.

Silly enigmax, in this modern age where even the artists are globalized they can be considered local anywhere in the globe. Please get informed. /sarcasm

MAFIAA is not about protecting local creators and we all know that.

Private trackers may be safer than public places but they are not fool-proof. Do you really think there aren't MAFIAA staff working to get into those so-called private trackers to get your ip? And considering how much smaller the environment is (less peers) don't you think you'll be an even easier target?

And please, Peerblock blocks known MAFIAA/Govt/Etc sites but I think MAFIAA is smart enough to use private connections or get partners to scout for file sharers. Don't be so naive.

"which sounds suspiciously like the seeds of a cost-cutting exercise."

Or perhaps, as the situation currently is that your IP number is recorded by the rights holder who passes this with the letter for the infraction to your ISP. The ISP are required to match the IP number to your customer details and forward the note to your physical address.

The flaw in this is that it seems to be up to the ISP to keep track of how many notices they send to you, one, two or three. Perhaps if you do not have a fixed IP number the rights holder may not realise they are sending multiple warnings to the same 'pirate' - not very efficient to them if it costs $200 sending out warnings when you've already had your three strikes! And of course you could always get strike number two, then change your provider, and the count starts again.

However if the copyright holders can centralise IP/customer matching, they can control your life, and that's what they want. Too many people have already discovered there is a world out there where you do not have to pay for every piece of media you are exposed to, they want us all back under their control.
