Personally, I’m looking more for p2p than for f2f – plausible deniability, and when you minimize the amount of contact between yourself and others + the technical data you have to swap (passwords etc.) you minimize the chances of compromising yourself and your partners.

But, centralized components of a p2p network are dinosaur relics that will doom a network to extinction, so I’m really impressed by the decentralization of the Alliance network!

For daily life, I’d like to stick with something simple and decentralized (like gnutella), and I hope for a new network that is also secure, encryped, and anonymous (like unmentionable networks).

For matters which required real security though, f2f would be my first choice by far; I can see this thing as having a lot of legitimate applications even in the business world!

I know, but the way Alliance is implemented it’s impossible for it to become mainstream. It’s too hard to inject new users (you have to go through this complicated process of giving them a password code and matching them with everyone else connected) and it’s just too closed to ever become mainstream. Whats so hard about pressing “generate new buddy code” and giving it to a friend to add to their client?

If thats to hard for you then go into options>security and system tray and uncheck the “connection codes I make may only be used once” then generate a new code and keep giving that code out to all your friends. This way you wont ever have to generate a new one.

Once you have a few friends it will then start adding their friends to your client. The process is effortless.

As for ISP throttling, the only time I notice problems is when Bittorrent is run at the same time as Alliance. The RST packets meant for Bittorrent affect Alliance horribly causing your net to cripple and go slow. Once you shut Bittorrent off the RST packets stop and Alliance works perfect with speeds as fast as Bittorrent.

How is it impossible? Just think of private trackers, they are extremely popular yet they’re somewhat difficult to get into. Privacy is a good thing, don’t be so closed minded.

Upnp was implemented over a year ago.

You’ve been able to download folders with Alliance since two years back.

If you’re looking for a specific folder a friend is sharing then click on your friend. His share is then displayed. Then browse to the folder, right click and select download.

Don’t really see how you could miss that..?

Awesome idea great amazing piece of work but useless if it cant share folders what is the developers thinking?
