The rhetoric has confused me. But I’ll say this:

The inhabitants of the United States are not the ultimate cause of the world’s problems. I doubt that Europe and Asia can teach us much about civilization. Over the centuries, you’ve killed many many many many millions of people over there, and we haven’t done that here yet. We’re trying to avoid the mistakes that you have made.

One Trident nuclear warhead packs 100,000 tons of explosive force. One Trident sub missile can carry up to 8 nuclear warheads. One U.S. sub can carry 24 Trident missiles. A couple dozen U.S. subs can launch over 4,000 nuclear warheads. All the USA would have to do is pick a date and hour, and Europe’s biggest 4,000 villages would be demolished in about one hour, quickly solving Europe’s big, bad capitalist problems for you and your anarchist soulmates. Of course, like WWII, 1 or 2 warheads would probably suffice, particularly for the French surrender monkeys.

BTW, there’s nothing, nothing you could do to stop this. What little military/nuclear might that Europe possesses (before it disarms) would be easily destroyed. The fact that you are living is simply due to the sheer goodwill of the United States of America, and for no other good reason.

With nuclear sub missiles, we wouldn’t even need to step foot on European soil.

If, on the other hand, the Soviet Union had not collapsed and was the only remaining superpower, rest assured that you would be cooking borsh or serving vodka for your Gulag masters, rather than writing anti-American missives and anarchism.

your speeches about america, and against europe, are valid in that they show an opinion that no country escapes having flaws;
however, you are promoting your viewpoint so aggressively that it’s coming across as a Stephen Colbert-esque viewpoint, ie one which attempts to ridicule the victim, by posing as the victim and making aggressive, irrational, and outright obnoxious statements.

And this uploader? Yes, he broke the law. No, not all written laws are higher than the “spirit of the law”.
Yes, he and all other uploaders are something of heroes in the nonviolent opposition of short-sighted pseudo-capitalist greed. No, it is not a triumph that our only significant alternative is to commit immoral acts of theft, and deprivation to legitimate creators.

Finally, odds are zero that any normal uploader would receive the full prison sentence; because this guy is ~symbolic, he _might_ be made an example of, and c’mon, that’s legit!
I highly doubt that 20,000 highschool kids who upload a favorite album/movie or so are also going to be receiving the max fine!

So, let’s see… at $20,000 (mininum) per year for jail time, for 10 years is $200,000 and those numbers are way old, like 5 years!, so, you take THAT, plus all the time the FBI has spent, plus all the money spent that could have been better spent on other things… This is starting to like the drug policy folly - Lord help us all!

Crimson, when fanatical, anti-American hatred is the standard fare across Europe, it is clear that the continent has lost its way and collective minds.

When Europeans are so blinded with rage against a people who sacrificed so much life, limb and treasure for the safety and security of Europeans, it must be called out.

You’re continuing to completely miss the point here. I put the code in for one reason and one reason only, to get statistics on legal vs non-legal copies. Had I done this without full disclosure, yes it would have been ’spyware’.

Ok, so I read your post again. But you do come off sounding like some ignorant open-source everything hypocrite. And you definitely suggested that there are companies out there that gives away [all of their] software for free and still makes a pretty penny.

I do give away some applications for free, I charge for others. I open source some and I keep the source very secure in others. These are all conscious decicions with a lot of thought and method behind them.

At the end of the day I have to put petrol in my cars, put food on the table, pay bills and whatnot - these things are not free you know (or perhaps you don’t because your parents are still paying your way?).
If I make my money by selling MY intellectual property, either by way of a closed source secure application, open source community driven application or by me providing hourly consultations does not really make a difference here - we’re still trading in IP and the same goes for those knight-on-a-white-horse companies you mentioned above.

I’ll agree that in SOME cases piracy has no detrimental effect, but to say that in MOST cases it does not is just plain ignorant. In this case I have a DB full of proof that it obviously has had a negative impact on my earnings - with some 2852 users continually using my product without actually purchasing a (very affordable) license. Like I stated already (in my original post) though, all of those does not equal a lost sale, but some most certainly do (and yes, some have started out using the pirated version and later purchased a license - even though there are no-limit trial versions available for download).

As for being a cry baby, you think what you want, but calling me that after reading my posts clearly shows your lack of comprehension of the english language. I have in no sense of the word ‘cried’ about my lost revenue, I was simply pointing out that the good old defence “It’s a victimless crime” does not really apply.

First of all, end users don’t read EULAs so I’m willing to bet 99% aren’t aware of being spied uppon by you at all. (Where can we find this EULA BTW?)

Second of all, why not put in a mechanism to deactivate their unlicensed copy, then you’ll find out that none of them are willing cough up the cash.

Now if all of your users became aware of you spying tactics I’m willing to bet even most of those paying users won’t even continue to use it.

Thirdly, there are loads of companies that give away all their software for free. Yes I said *software*, not *products* as what you tried to twist my words into in your previous reply. And just FYI I use opensource exclusively, and not just to avoid crappy spyware from dickheads like yourself.

As for the rest of your nonsense, I can’t even be bothered to adress it. So why don’t you just dry your tears and get a real job instead?

A nation is just an invention of the human mind. A unit of organization.

Those who ascribe any more significance to a nation than that are silly.

There is no such thing as an “American”. There is no such thing as a “Frenchman”.

There are people who happen to live in America, and there are people who happen to live in France.

Now, political LEADERSHIP of a given nation, that is a different story.

And I would argue that human leadership has, by and large, sucked hardcore throughout history and across cultures and continents.

America has crap leadership presently. So do a lot of other nations in the world.

The majority here should stand together as P2P mates….like it or not we’re all in this together, united, regardless of country, culture ETC…the fact that a mate of ours is going to be spending some pretty harsh time in jail for a white collar offense is terrible, and a travesty of justice. I am going to try and write my congressman here in the states. I don’t know if it will do any good, but at least I am trying to make a difference. Everyone can make a difference in some way by keeping a positive outlook. I’m serious.
