My guess is that it would be CR doing it. It may not be the nicest way, but Funimation already proved that the lawsuit way doesn't work. It may not seem like the nicest way, but it has proven effective. I do have to admire the use of an effective system, but I don't see how they can keep it up. The anime season will be changing in a few weeks and it will be interesting to see if they can keep it up that long.

The anime fandom has been generally accepting of fansubs but with legal services appearing there's less acceptance. Although Horriblesubs are straight out rips of legit subs and even those who download fansubs don't feel what they're doing is acceptable.

CR service suddenly went from bad to no service at all. I was paying for the premium subscription, was pissed I had to wait 4-24 hours or more to see several animes. I did not know Nyaa was down until after I cancelled my sub. I wonder how many other cancellations there were?

I wouldn't look weird.
They also DMCA'd my server using the Italian government as a reason.
You tell me what the Italian government has got to do with a torrent tracker with Japanese anime....
I'm sure Nyaa has something to do with that too back in 2008

i never comment on these places but back in the early days fansubs were
the ONLY way to watch MOST anime as hardly any were dubbed or subbed in
English due to not having a massive audience in western countries, this
in turn has actually developed the audience that now feeds license
companies confidence there is a big enough audience to acquire the
rights to many anime series each year

to call us not fans is an
insult without us guys and girls in our 30's and 40's who started the
thirst for anime you wouldn't have such a wide selection now

TL:DR - fansubs single handily started the western anime craze and sales and has done for anime than anything else

Without piracy, legal options would have been even more limited than they are now, and the western anime market would probably have collapsed by now.

Fansubs exposed a lot of people to shows they otherwise would have never watched. This is how I got into anime, and I'm convinced this goes for others, too, especially those who don't live in the USA (because the amount of shows I can see on CR – the only available option for me, as the rest are region-locked or merely limit themselves to US use only – is often not even half of what they have overall. And there are countries that have it even worse).

Since I started downloading my anime, I started buying stuff. It started with anime, but it expanded into figurines, merchandise (including CDs), and eventually, I even moved on to manga, Maybe a lot of them don't buy, but I'm sure there are people like me, who will buy if they like what they see and give more direct support to the industry that way. Heck, some even import straight from Japan, because they believe they help the anime industry more that way than by paying a legal service like CR.

What I'm trying to say is, you can be BOTH a pirate AND an anime fan, and this goes for any type of entertainment, too.

I hate piracy, and I love Anime, so the take down of those sites made me really happy. Next time, buy Anime. Don't call yourself an Anime fan if you he's sites anime companies don't like. You aren't a fan if you pirate, you are a parasite. An AFINO: Anime Fan In Name Only.
