Apple Neutralizes Jailbreaking Threat – By Employing Him

According to an announcement by one of the leading lights in the iOS jailbreaking scene, he’s off to do some work for Apple.

Via his Twitter account Nicholas Allegra, aka Comex, last night said: “So, the week after next I will be starting an internship with Apple.”

Part of the iPhone Dev Team, Comex rose to fame by leading the brilliant and free web-based unlocking solutions at JailBreakMe.com

ComexApple

Fellow Jailbreaker MuscleNerd was quick with the congratulations.

“Congrats on the Apple internship…what a great opportunity!” he said.

However, this announcement means that Comex has effectively switched sides and his undoubted genius will now be used to secure Apple devices from people just like him.

If he succeeds, Cydia – the alternative to the Apple App Store – will be doomed.

They “cut” one head but the hydra is unstoppable, I’m fairly sure that a few peeps are outraged with this and will promptly get his place. And Apple should know already, with Android being an open and widely adopted system they should just let the jailbreaking issue alone… Healthier for their revenues ;)

I bought Android because it is open and free ;)

      he bought something that’s free…. Hmmm…

From an objective point of view, this is a great opportunity for the guy, and congrats to him. Subjectively, kinda sucks but I don’t doubt there will be plenty of other people undoing any work he puts in to iOS protection.

Just one more reason to avoid Apple products. (The fact you have to Jailbreak your phone to buy from the app store of your choice.)

*facepalm wow wow wow wow wow wow. How do you know he won’t be doing jail breaking while he is on that intern? How do you know he isn’t going to go and use what he learns from apple to his advantage to help out the legal jail breaking community? You really never know, and jail breaking is actually legal, I think…

It is, according to a DMCA exception. But Apple is allowed to void your warranty, and to try blocking it.

Apple will probably have him sign an agreement stating he will not release any information he learns at apple to anybody or they would take him to court.

What an incredible assertion. You have no idea what purposes his knowledge of iPhones will be directed towards during his employment with Apple. This post is highly speculative, and I’m surprised to see it on this site that I had considered a reputable outlet.

Of couse, Apple won’t have any interest in his jailbreaking skills, they’ll completely ignore those and set him to work doing filing and making coffee

      • Blahblah070

This article makes it sound like Apple is employing Nicholas for the sole purpose of combating the jailbreaking community. Torrentfreak has no proof of motivation in his internship, and neither do you. This article is speculative at best.

What an idiot to go work for the enemy. I bet it will be his job to jailbreak proof the new iphones. Fucking hypocrite.

Im not totally sure since im not personally in the bizz, but i would expect that it would be any hackers dream to end up working for an amazing company such as apple(yes it is an amazing company do not attempt to deny this). secondly, you dont exactly turn a job offer down from a company like apple. People do anything to get these jobs and for them to seek you out and offer you a job is incredibly lucky. he may be acting hypocritical but ur just a hater. whats worse??

  • AppleSucks

    Typical Apple nazis.

  • Nick

Well, honestly, with the exception of App piracy, cell tower stuff, etc., I don’t think Apple is concerned about Jailbreaking as a ‘thing’. People who want to PwnageTool their own iPhones and do what they want are pretty much under the radar to Apple, I would think. DMCA says Jailbreaking is legal, Apple will void your warranty, and everyone knows the expectations on either side.

OTA Jailbreaks that remotely exploit security vulnerabilities, on the other hand, are a much bigger issue to Apple. Those vulnerabilities present potential issues to every iPhone customer, and hiring Comex as a security intern would definitely help shore up OTA vulnerabilities.
