Are You Excited About Internet Censorship?

Today the Senate’s House Judiciary Committee is handling the “Stop Online Piracy Act” (SOPA).

Because there are dozens of amendments to be discussed, a vote on the bill probably won’t happen before tomorrow.

This gives the public some extra time to let Congress know what you think

If you think that’s not really your cup of tea, you can also read a comic… you can find one below.

The United States used to lead the way now look at us…

Even China is becoming a better place for the internet than USA.

Although I am against SOPA, to say that China is becoming a better place for the internet is still a gross exaggeration. China’s censorship system is well-known for targeting and censoring political criticism. Even if SOPA passes, it still will not permit the U.S. government to shut down websites solely because it disagrees with the message. It is a dangerous step in that direction, but not quite there yet.

Was watching the hearings online. It was horrible. The proponents of SOPA kept having to be corrected on how the internet is actually built and used. It went into bizarre levels when Avenue Q’s The Internet is for Porn made it into the record.

Do you have a link to these proceedings please?
I’m one of those ‘crazies’ in the UK who actually watches our elected (or otherwise) politicians in action – and not via mere 10-30sec news clips.

So if there’s an archive of the USA’s debates somewhere, I’d be grateful for the link. For example, the UK’s parliament is televised, archived and past debates can be watched from here -

So it would be good if a wrongly self-confessed democratic, open Country such as the USA had a similar service (even if it was limited to it’s own populace (as I’m happy to use a proxy to gain access :) ).

MAJOR ROFLMAO at the cartoon, “macramé and the internet are sacred.”

I actually have a friend whom I had to persuade some years ago to connect to the web yet to this day mainly uses the net to access sites on Sugar Craft and caravanning – HONESTLY!!!!

And SOPA will shut my friend off because they’ll be deemed to be some sorta terrorist for making sculptures of swans or ballet dancers out of sugar :o

    Well fuck me ….
