I doubt they are used for statistical analysis. AT&T as a carrier are hardly using desktop BT clients for their analysis of total traffic. They’ve got packet analyzers quantifying the share of different protocols within the total flow. And that’s where encrypted traffic should hurt them because they can’t simply peak inside the datagrams.
