GO SEE IT IN DOLBY 3D!!!

It PISSES all over IMAx 3D and RealD enabled cinemas. I also hear XpanD which uses shutter glasses is good but it’s not available in the UK I don’t think.

I have seen all three 3D systems and Dolby 3D is BY FAR the best of the three passive lens systems.

IMAX 3D uses old linear polarizing lesnes = ghosting when you tilt you head, dark glasses dim the screen. If they compensate by turning up the brightness the colors become washed out. Also tracking motion is VERY hard on the eyes/brain.

RealD uses circular polarizing lenses = No head tilt ghosting problems. However it still suffers from dimming because the lenses are dark.

Dolby 3D whilst not perfect is MUCH better and clearer. No head tilt issues. No ghosting. Easier to track motion (For me anyhow) and uses glasses that are not darkened. They are shiny but clear and use interference patterns or something to make them work. It was AMAZING!

As to ‘pirating’ 3D movies. Well you can already downloade BluRay rips that use the old colored lens system but that system is shit!

BluRay 3D proper has been finalized for HDTV’s for next year. You will not need a new BluRay player but you will need a new 3D capable HDTV. When those discs appear it won’t be long before they are uploaded onto the internet.

Honestly, 3D isn’t as big of a hurdle to pirates as they seem to be implying. It isn’t hard to simply put a polarized lense over a cam, getting a capture for a single eye. With the boom in shutterglasses sales I see coming in a couple months, it will be even less of a big deal.

The Goods:

1. Awesome cinematographer
2. Best 3D
3. Excellent CGI

The Bads:

1. Story is very similar to Battle for Tera, Delgo, and Planet 51. The human becomes the alien.
2. Expensive ticket
3. Not enough 3D throughtout the movie

What make this movie financial safe is the fact that some of the best scene are in 3D. Watching it in 2D is fine, but seeing it in 3D is way better. It has a whole new experience.

This movie protects it self from pirating through 3D. All movies from now on are going to hop on Cameron’s 3D titanic. Sure pirate can get their hand on the 2D version and it will look fine. But if you haven’t watched a 3D movie or see it for the first time. You will know that 3D is like watching a movie in color while 2D is black & white.

This trend will probably last for a while until camera with 3D comes home. Or someone place a 3D glass over his HD cam and just record it like it was him watching. I haven’t seen it done but if someone done this before, I would like to know the result.

This movie will also be a hot cake when it comes to Blu-ray due to the fact that blu-ray player will now play 3D movies. I can see this movie being the first to hop on board at this trend. Then someone will rip it in 3D and put it online.

Maybe I should start investing in manufactures that makes 3D glasses and blu-ray player. This might not be a bad idea. or maybe I should just invest in James Cameron.

I personally do not believe in downloading this great epic it deserver to be watched in 3d, pple that actually are to cheap to wahtch it at the cinemas what a loss for them, in my personal opinion it was a great experience and i hope movies like this become more the norm

Jeez there are so many movies that have been released as dvd/bdrips in both 2D and 3D versions.The only problem is you need to have the right glasses to view the 3D version. What kind of lame ass pirates are most of you for not knowing this lol? And anybody who downloads a cam or TS is a fool, you’re wasting 2 hours of you’re life watching the crappest quality possible, go get laid or do something positive in that time lol.

Watched Avatar in 3D, to be honest it’d be perfectly fine in 2D too, its not really an immersive experience like we’re lead to believe by the studios. In fact the colours on most movies look much better on 2D screens, from my experience, as wearing 3D glasses makes the film lose some colour.

Its not the best film of the year, its fine, does the job, better than most of the other blockbusters this year. Star Trek is still superior and far more entertaining, but the best films are probably Gran Torino, Inglorious Basterds, District 9….and Extract (I’m sorry, but a guy losing a nut is a great concept for a film lol)

I wonder when the industry will realize that scene releases are by now a pavlovian reflex / mirror image to any official release.

They happen not because they want to cause as much sales damage as possible, but they happen because they CAN happen.
The scene will collect(as in make) releases like others collect stamps or play sport matches.
Every crappy app gets a release just as much as any high profile game or movie.

Avatar is one of those films were the cinema experience comes into it’s own. Home entertainment has come on leaps and bounds in the past few years, but it can’t hope to replicate Imax3d – it’s incredible! :)

i dont think the tech side makes much of an argument here, the fact that it’s an outstanding movie will encourage cinema atendance more than anything – so to the big movie houses – make a decent movie and we’ll go see it, any chance of not ripping us off just coz you can see it in real 3D too

Saw this in the theater, while it was incredible to watch the plot was a bit predictable. I can see how a DL of this would be hard to do online with all the new tech that went into this film. But I like how the article mentions that it the corporations are downplaying the fact that its available online. Would it be too much to hope that they are finally getting the clue about internet file sharing? Nahhhhh

@50. You hit the nail on the head. Visually, it’s the best film I’ve seen. However, I would be suprised if I could find anyone, except for the terminally brain-dead, who could not tell me the plot and the eventual outcome of the film after seeing just the trailer. It’s two and a half hours of eye candy. It’s a shame they couldn’t come up with a decent plot with a budget of a couple hundred million $$.

Great movie, predictible plot, but massive eye candy and fun experience in 3D.

I really liked this movie a lot.
However it does remind me a bit of the Aquablue comics, I think they stole some storyline there.
