The BitTorrent Legend Returns: I Am aXXo

It now seems that he is back in business. A few hours ago aXXo uploaded his first movie in months. He chose “I Am Legend”.
Since November 11 2007, when the last official aXXo torrent was uploaded, it has been awfully quiet. Some people assumed that aXXo had got himself caught while others claimed he had an accident. After a while it became clear that he simply decided to take some time off.
An administrator on Darkside RG, the official home of aXXo explained at the time: “aXXo told us that he has decided to take a break, so you will not see new aXXo torrents anywhere for a while. Please show your support by keeping his torrents alive until he comes back, as always, he will post here first when he does.”
Now, after nearly four months of absence aXXo has returned, and uploaded his first .torrent on Darkside RG and other torrent sites. It’s the news that many BitTorrent users have been waiting for.
Marking his comeback with the movie “I Am Legend” could be seen as symbolic. Before aXXo decided to take a break, an estimated one million people downloaded his DVDrips every month. The search term aXXo was undoubtedly the most popular at many torrent sites. Although there are conflicting opinions in respect of the quality of his work, there can be no dispute that he was, and still is, very popular indeed.
While some see him in an almost religious light, others have been quick to take advantage of his popularity for nefarious purposes, or have used the aXXo brand to draw attention to their own releases, like KLAXXON did.
Even though some see him as a legend, aXXo certainly isn’t without his critics but whatever the position, his popularity is indisputable…..along with his modesty ;)

Actually, the scene abhors the selling of their releases, and state in the nfo of almost every single release.

All aXXo does is reencode the scene releases, which are perfectly good to start with. He’s just a useless attention whore who is just hurting BitTorrent, because now we have half the people downloading an aXXo release and the other half downloading a scene releases, which means a smaller swarm, and thus slower download times, for everyone.

The sceners rip off Hollywood and all other film makers who make far less money from their work. A typical movie costs at least hundreds of thousands dollars up to hundreds of millions. I don’t download avi’s anymore. Only h.264 rips. aXXo 700MB rips are crap compared to the same size h.264 encodings.
I hate these stupid sheep that seed axxo’s shit torrents. Re-encode from 8GB to 700MB???! That’s fucking HORRIBLE quality. It’s worse then camming a movie. I wish he didn’t come back. Then we’d have some quality torrents.
Don’t know him, never met him, never talked to him and have no plans to do any of those. However, I do know of him, and that as a casual dl’er I find the service he provides to be very helpful. Other work that people are willing to do (especially for free) that makes it easier for me personally, well, it has a value to me and I appreciate it.

A very important aspect to aXXo is that he provides a clear line for the “competition”.
You won’t be getting HD-quality or something like that, but you are always guaranteed to get what you’re looking for, and it’s perfectly watchable. That’s why aXXo’s so popular, consistency.
Even old people that’re largely unfamiliar with the internet knows that stuff labelled aXXo on TPB and alike is reliable. Beat that.
axxo rips blow. They are terrible quality.
I understand the anger from many members within the scene when guys like aXXo come along, jack their stuff, and label it as their own. There would be no problems anymore if aXXo just took the time to credit his sources and be done with it.
Come on dude, a little credit goes a long way.
