aXXo Temporarily Stops Releasing DVDrips
Written by Ernesto on November 28, 2007The popular DVD ripper aXXo is a BitTorrent cult figure, despised by some, worshiped by others. An estimated one million people download aXXo’s rips every month and his name is among the most searched keywords on all BitTorrent sites. Not surprisingly, rumors start to spread when there is no official aXXo release for a while.
The last official aXXo torrent was uploaded November 11, after that is has been awfully quiet. So what happened, did he get caught, is he tired of releasing DVDrips, did he have an accident? It turns out that aXXo is not gone for good, he just decided to take a break.
ADL 242, an administrator on Darkside RG, the official home of aXXo explains: “aXXo told us that he has decided to take a break, so you will not see new aXXo torrents anywhere for a while. Please show your support by keeping his torrents alive until he comes back, as always, he will post here first when he does.”
This is not the first time that aXXo has taken some time off. Last year aXXo temporarily stopped uploading movies because a website named axxotorrents.com was trying to profit from his name. A few weeks after that the site went down and aXXo continued releasing DVDrips.
Earlier this month aXXo caused a stir when he deleted all his torrents from The Pirate Bay website. Apparently aXXo wasn’t very happy with the way The Pirate Bay handled his complaints, and decided to not release his torrents there anymore.
Unfortunately, aXXo’s popularity has downsides too. We’ve seen that anti-piracy organizations use his name to trap people into downloading fake files, and malware peddlers use the aXXo brand to spread their infested software.
At this point is is not clear how long aXXo will be inactive, his fans can only pray, and hope the he will return soon.

No “Dude” I just call them like I see them. And, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to imply that EVERYONE here is an idiot. That would be ridiculous.
And yes, apparently I DO know more than most here, since people think Axxo is a God just because he re-encodes other peoples releases. Let me give an example…I just got the Futurama Vol. 4 4-disc set. Well, those are all dual-layer DVD’s that come to roughly 26 GB for all four discs. I Compressed them down to 1 Dual layer disc (8.5GB), with custom menus and DTS/AC3 Audio…This took around 17 hours on my computer, but let me tell you, the quality is incredible for the amount of compression. Now, my point is, that I researched this for like an hour to find the proper software to do the job, then there was like a 30 min learning curve because I was unfamilliar with the software. BUT 17 hours later and I have something pretty sweet when you consider the cost of dual-layer media and 26GB vs 8.5, the time was worth it. Now, Everyone here can do the same thing with a little time and effort. Anyways, the point is that it’s not an act of genius to re-encode a video and maintain quality and all of you can do it! Now, GO ENCODE SOMETHING. (If anyone is interested in the software I use, let me know) BTW I didn’t mean to sound condescending to you all.
Have a good day :-)[/quote]
no DUDE you dont know more than most people here your just not lazy and you give a fuck how things work but i know your not going to do more “re-encodes” at least not as many as for example axxo because it is more time consuming. And that is the reason that people adore him. Productivity and its safe. Believe me more than a million people download every month his release and they dont give a dam how its done they just want to give respect where its well deserved.
P.S. you sound a lot nicer than earlier and its way more effective . Your mesag.
pece
sorry for my bad english
axxo, robbing from the rich and giving to the poor! Keep it up, fucking corporations can go swivel on my middle finger, make enough money out of us as it is. Time we took something back!
Eat shit Media Locker! got that biotch?
@ EVERYONE,
Let me break down how things work for some people that might not understand (not being sarcastic).
First, we have the uploaders that I am going to refer to as “sceners”
These sceners grab a scene release and upload it to share with others. Most of the sceners DO NOT want to be found because of legal issues. They generally ONLY want one closed community website to have their release (knowing that others will download it and re-up it to other websites).
Some of the downloaders re-encode this upload for a smaller file. There is generally very MINIMAL quality loss. Converting a DVD to an AVI or DIVX is like converting a CD to MP3, granted there is always a loss of quality in the conversion, but, assuming the re-encoder doesnt half-ass it, the quality loss is not noticible.
(jägermaister, I am curious what software you used and what type of vid file you converted to for that huge size drop)
When you get 1 downloader that is getting a “collection” of different sceners releases, re-encoding them, then re-upping them, who cares if they sign their name to it? The way I see it, it ensures the security of the sceners. Some might WANT to get caught and get mad when re-encodes are signed by someone else but I personally dont care.
If you look at the whole picture, the people that are willing to put time, effort, and risk into sharing what they can get are the ultimate pirates.
Im not going to give any of my credentials, but I will say that I’m more of a weathered pirate.
aXXo has put alot of time and effort into making piracy easier for people without 0-day access. I will admit that I have downloaded a couple of his titles. I never had issues with them. I do not worship him, but I can always admire a good pirate. He has my respect.
jägermaister;
Nevermind about that software, mine will convert 26GB on the excellent quality setting down to 5.36GB. If I went to High; 4.84GB, Normal is 4.21GB and low is 3.99GB.
@ EVERYONE
about the huge size drop you should ask JACKSMACK because i want to know 2
ok than what do you have?
ProCoder 3 Encoding Software for Windows
my bad, sorry jäger
You are certainly missed aXXo/Adso, I hope all is well with you, and am looking forward to more of the same. Thanks for all you have done! Oh yea, all those who are posting all the trash talk, are just jealous of your popularity and success.
aXXo rules!

aXXo are you going to be posting your site on this forum?
Jebi te svi u dupe majke vam ga nabijem , aXXo je najbolji covek na svetu ! A vi ste svi stoka seljacka ! :D
English :
Fuck you all in the ass , mother fuckers , aXXo is the best person in the world ! And you are all peasant ! :D
P.S pusite mi kurac advokati
First, I ripped them to my HDD with DVDShrink in re-author mode so I could select only the main episodes and do away with all the extras/subs etc. Also, I used NO compression in this segment. So, then I have 4 folders on my drive with each DVD’s content in them. Next, I used TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 and pulled the content from each folder into my project. Total size at this point was 26GB. I opted to leave the DTS/AC3 Audio as original and not to re-encode it, because I have a nice A/V system to pipe the sound through :) Then I found a few jpg images of Futurama and incorporated them into a custom menu. I then set the software to Full Rendering and set the target size to 8.5GB. 17 hours later, I have every episode on 1 disc so I dont have to swap discs when I’m watching it, and there is NO discernable loss of quality.
There you have it :)
A litlle respect for aXXO, …stupid idiots, …aXXo is THE BEST EVER
BTW, Jagermeister made some very good points. I DO respect axxo for the sheer AMOUNT of stuff that he has uploaded and the HUGE amount of time he has obviously invested in the encoding process. I must admit, when I saw how many movies he uploaded, I was amazed and started to think he was a bot. I mean, how many man-hours do you think he has invested in all of his uploads? You can bet it’s a staggering number. And for that, and a few of the other points that were made, I DO respect aXXo. Just an FYI.
@JACKSMACK
Sounds like an awesome package, I’ll be sure to download it if I ever see it. But I beleive that there is definately a large drop in quality. If you watch an episode on the original disc then immediately swap for your re-encoded disc, I’m sure you will notice a big difference. First of all, DVD Shrink is an awesome ripping tool, I use it alot, but if you are strictly looking for quality, you would have used AnyDVD or some other DVD lock decrypting software, then used Alcohol to compile your ISO because DVD Shrink will dampen your quality. I dont want to spend the time to reference that, but if you search the internet for Dvd Shrink ratings and reviews, you’ll find out.
Second, I have used re-encoding software that lets you select the target size before. Whether or not you have selected to disable compression, it’s taking the size down somehow without changing the file extension, which means you are either taking away from the quality or you are compressing it. It is very unlikely that there is software that will take four DVD9’s take the subs and the menus out of it, then without compression or noticable loss of quality turn it into one DVD9. If you did find software that would do that, buy into that company!!! It’s a gold mine!!! I’ll check out your software to see what I can do with it.
I appreciate the work that aXXo puts in, because I know it’s time consuming to rip stuff and put it up, but it’s fairly clear he’s an internet diva.
Life existed before aXXo, it goes on without him. As he’s left, at least 3 new rippers have emerged doing equal quality work.
Thanks for your hard work aXXo, but honestly mate, I think you take yourself a little too seriously.
I downloaded TMPGEnc DVD Author 3. I have the settings set exactly the same as yours. I am re-encoding Family guy Volume 5. It’s 3 DVD5’s totaling 13.5GB the fourth is an extras disc im not going to add in . I set the audio to stay the same as the origional. I am creating custom menus. After this I will start the process. I’m wanting to turn all three DVD5’s into one 4.5GB DVD5. If you are right and there is no noticable difference, I praise you for your findings.
jacksmack….peace bro!
i dont get anything from this. i like axxo beacause is the best uploader….in my opiniom.
that you like him or not is up to you, i’m sure you have your reazons. but for the rest of us, he is just about the best thing, so respect that as we try to respect your opinion towards him….we also have our reazons.
thks
@ MrBeers
Dvd Shrink only “shrinks” -or takes away from the quality if you have the compression set to normal. Notice the compression settings in the dropdown tab. If you set that to ‘no comptession’, it just rips the uncompressed .vob’s off the DVD to your HDD, so there is no loss of quality there. The loss comes from TMPGEnc - going from 26GB to 8.5GB. Plus the fact that I didnt re-encode the audio, so the DTS stream is large, leaving less room for the video. I Probably would have re-encoded the audio if this wasnt a cartoon, to leave more space for a better video stream. but with animated stuff, the quality difference is less noticeable than with a live-action movie.
Oops! forgot to mention I’m looking forward to hearing your results mrbeers :-) And as I said before you shouldn’t have a noticeable quality loss with animated stuff….I mean if you are really picky, and you go into this looking for every flaw, Im sure you will notice some. Like I said, you cant encode something - losing data in the process - and still have perfect quality although I’d like to have my cake and eat it too lol.
:-) Hope your video comes out great my man.
i think axxo did a wonderfull jobs i dont know why everyone is moaning his work was good he used his own time to rip dvds that are quite watchable at home its not about knowing nothing its about being happy with what he was giving come back
