aXXo Temporarily Stops Releasing DVDrips
Written by Ernesto on November 28, 2007The popular DVD ripper aXXo is a BitTorrent cult figure, despised by some, worshiped by others. An estimated one million people download aXXo’s rips every month and his name is among the most searched keywords on all BitTorrent sites. Not surprisingly, rumors start to spread when there is no official aXXo release for a while.
The last official aXXo torrent was uploaded November 11, after that is has been awfully quiet. So what happened, did he get caught, is he tired of releasing DVDrips, did he have an accident? It turns out that aXXo is not gone for good, he just decided to take a break.
ADL 242, an administrator on Darkside RG, the official home of aXXo explains: “aXXo told us that he has decided to take a break, so you will not see new aXXo torrents anywhere for a while. Please show your support by keeping his torrents alive until he comes back, as always, he will post here first when he does.”
This is not the first time that aXXo has taken some time off. Last year aXXo temporarily stopped uploading movies because a website named axxotorrents.com was trying to profit from his name. A few weeks after that the site went down and aXXo continued releasing DVDrips.
Earlier this month aXXo caused a stir when he deleted all his torrents from The Pirate Bay website. Apparently aXXo wasn’t very happy with the way The Pirate Bay handled his complaints, and decided to not release his torrents there anymore.
Unfortunately, aXXo’s popularity has downsides too. We’ve seen that anti-piracy organizations use his name to trap people into downloading fake files, and malware peddlers use the aXXo brand to spread their infested software.
At this point is is not clear how long aXXo will be inactive, his fans can only pray, and hope the he will return soon.

lmao i am 25 as a matter of fact, and i have DL axxo torrents myself, as i have a lot of other torrents, i could not give a flying fuck if he re-encodes scene releases or actual DVDS, for 700 meg they are decent qaulity, for what they represent and with the amount of seed`s on each movie they are an added extra to an alrweady good list of rippers, damn now i forget what i was on about lol.

I’ve been downloaded aXXo DVDrip since I know torrent. Good quality ever and he has many movies. Beside aXXo, there are couple good ripper too. As I know, they all are good people.. good buddy.. and good friend to all torrent communities.
And I hope aXXo and all DVDriper around the world.. don’t stop uploading good material. Because.. you, you, you are the best.

To be honest, most people are not computer science majors; and although we have interest and even enthusiam for the P2P world, we also have lives offline, leaving us insufficient time to do all the research that someone with more formal education, and/or free time, is capable of.
You complain about us, but I would assume that at least one of the following is true:
a) You have a formal education in computer science,
b) You gave up a lot of your freetime/”offline” life (talking months here) to learn what you now know,
c) You have access to a ~hardcore P2P insider.
Most of the rest of us don’t have these advantages. Additionally, I feel obliged to consider a fourth possibility;
d) you are fourteen years old, arrogant, and have more or less acccidently discovered some insider information to aid your P2P quests.

Well, then it’s not about aXXo, it’s about other Sceners not trying to show out as much.
Is showing out a good thing? Yes.
I don’t understand why I should spend a lot of time searching, to get “twice the size” movies with almost the same quality(an average person can not see the difference without side-by-side comparison). And the ones bashing aXXo -> if you want justice and good quality, then go buy the damn movie!

I don’t think too many of us deny that; there is a belief that he rips SOME content, but certainly re-encodes most.

I certainly don’t deny that; without a primary source for content to a community, there _is_ no content for the community. I agree.

So you would choose your own safety over contributing to the welfare of the community; I can respect that; unless it was important, I’d probably do the same thing; but aXXo doesn’t. He takes risk, just like original encoders, but he takes the extra risk of contributing to the community.

At Last! I commend you, my friend. At least someone exhibits some brains at this place. I Have thought about releasing some of the stuff in my collection that is hard to find….but…I AM a bit paranoid about all this MPAA crap. Of course, I’m in the USA which is rapidly becoming a police-state, so I think I’ll wait and see how things play out before I go out on a limb and risk my neck. I Will admit, aXXo has uploaded ALOT of stuff for the community. There’s no denying that, but that wasn’t the point I was making but you already know that :)

True, Newartriot does release better quality rips, agreed. H.264 rips at 700mb are much harder to tell they have been compressed.
