Jeffrey Brisker Jr. downloaded the child porn intentionally. He likes toddlers. The news paper failed to mention that his grandparents house was also a parsonage / daycare. Brisker was surrounded by toddlers when he downloaded the child porn. His so called preacher grand pappy and grandma didn't notice his collection? Yeah Right!

" 96 Jun 08, 2008 at 07:16 by cheribom

I think Rhever is a play on the Reavers from Firefly. Meaning they'll rape you to death, eat your flesh, and sew your skin into their clothing. And if you're very, VERY, lucky, they'll do it in that order."

I cannot believe there is only a single post that caught that.

Oh, and the Reavers in Firefly were created by the government, accidentally, in an attempt to create the perfect society. (As shown in the movie Serenity)

I'd be amazed if anyone trusted "Rhever".

To prove that rhever is not a scam I have actually left the code completely unobfuscated. Using the free Microsoft .NET Reflector tool you can see every last bit of code contained within Rhever. The client is free, we simply charge the cost to maintain the index server and provide you with a quota to use. You can sign up, login to nntp.rhever.com using any news reader with the same credentials you created online. The only dll that is "protected" is the rarengine.dll which was obtained directly from rarlab's source forge page. It is "protected" because it was written in C++ which anyone with software development knowledge knows, is compiled to native machine code and can not be read the same way an application written in .NET is.

We also don't record anything because there is nothing to record. You can look at tcp packet captures to see exactly what is going on. We simply query the search server for what you want to query then your client connects to the news server directly and downloads the files. The news server is run by newshosting.com which is by most considered the second largest news server company in the world right behind giganews.

This information is a bit hidden because we want to make the client as easy to use as possible. Like I said before, we are only 3 months, but will be making great improvements by the end of the year.

It is my hope that a 3rd with some technical knowhow will analyze the program in depth to validate what I am saying, but until then I expect users to react with criticism.

Nice idea ... having dedicated servers to spread desired files around -- trouble with that is, the more popular a file becomes, the more people try simultaneously downloading from the same server, the more lag accumulates and the slower the download becomes -- this is exactly what BitTorrent was designed to prevent ... that Rhever can do the same without peer to peer sharing means a great deal of dedicated bandwidth will have to be allocated by Rhever to keep their network from grinding to a halt -- again, the exact scenario that torrents were designed to alleviate ... I look forward to seeing what happens to Rhever as their popularity grows and the limits of their dedicated bandwidth throughputs are tested ...

@Michael Heinz

you say

"Simply, Rhever is a project being developed by a group of 4 friends for fun and because UseNet is a great service. We are not some large start-up and we never intended the Beta to get this much attention."

BUT
"Each of its [Rhever's] 60,000 servers are run by an administrative team that monitors the servers for any rogue files - viruses, fake uploads and other negative features that are removed instantly"

so which one is it your not some large start up or you have 60 000 servers and a admin team that sits there goin through all the files either way your a lier

you say this has been made for 4 friends and is still beta and not even thinking about going public yet

then how come 8 months ago you made the cartoons 8 months ago you wouldnt have even known exactally what you could offer so spending money on them would just be retarded

you say your not going public anytime soon but you hired a writer

dude get your bullcrap str8 before you try 2 scam people we all know your whois eventually points to kaz and its just a scam

even if there was half as many viruses as you talk about id still rather that insted of gettin shit from a crappy server that records everything and gives details to ANYBODY that wants em

Hi,
I'm Michael Heinz the creator of Rhever (It was going to be called "Rever" but i had a cold that day) I'd just like to make you all aware that Rhever is totally clean. Well i say clean....by clean i mean an off shade of white....well...by an off shade of white i mean...brownish....well by brownish i mean...oh look ok...it's infested....you have a better chance of not catching anything if you went with a 25c hooker. But it does have it's benifits too! Have you ever had the desire to totally fuck up your hard drive??? Then this is the prgram for you! Pissed off with an ex Girlfriend or Boyfriend? Then get them a subscription to Rhever and we'll promise to trash every computer they ever buy!
We have somemore adverts coming out...in one of them we trash the artists on the simpsons because it's clear to all that the guy who made our cartoons is much much much better at drawing than those guys at fox! And after we've run out of people to trash we'll start on small minoroties...and then we'll say you're all unfit parents and Rhever could be a better parent!
Well i''m glad you're all such big fans of the product. I'd stay and chat longer but i have to go as Prince is trying to reclaim me (As a footnote don't ever buy another price CD again....Rhever makes much better music).
Love, Peace and Rhever y'all!

@ Michael Heinz.
Damage control mode? heheh
So uv worked hard on this to develop it. So What? Either u are licensed to sell content or ur not. If u are then uv lost 99% of potential users, if not, then ur scamming the media industries and wish to profit from others over content already freely available. In this scenario u lose out also, and it's only a matter of time before they litigate and close u down. Why not quit now while ur still in the black?

You may have success if u paid license fees, were ad sponsored, and offered access to free files. Plus protected user privacy. Otherwise I can't see any other way.

@Herr Heinz!

Hallo Herr Heinz,

so you might want to set my account to active even though I have not given you any CC or other billing information.

Just so I (who gives a shit about MAFIAA and that YOU will land in prison for your aggressive advertising/and of facilitating of copyrightinfringement on a commercial scale) can test how Usenet newb friendly your "great service" really is!

P.S. for your programming guy that works so hard: Your registering form claims that a 18 digits PW is not valid while a 9 digit one is!

I am the owner of Rhever.com and the Rhever application (and I will add an avid reader of TorrentFreak.com).
I would like to set the record straight, Rhever is a Usenet type application except we have taken the time to make the searching and downloading processes as simple as possible to market to novice users , Users who would normally be using applications like LimeWire or Kazaa. We did not want to brand Rhever as a UseNet Client because we are trying to become more than that but the monthly fee is UseNet access.

Patrick Nikoletich (the main programmer, who posted here earlier) has been working very hard to develop this application with a team of two other people.
This software is still in Beta, in fact, it was only being used by a select group of friends as we were testing it out before this post attracted so much attention to us.

I agree, the website looks like a scam. We were not prepared to go live and had no idea our software would attract this kind of attention. The press releases were written and distributed by an over-zealous writer we hired from eLance.com.

For the animations, you can see these were posted over 8 months ago, we had them developed for fun, personally I think they are funny. It was never meant to be taken so literal.

Simply, Rhever is a project being developed by a group of 4 friends for fun and because UseNet is a great service. We are not some large start-up and we never intended the Beta to get this much attention.
The Rhever application works, and we have worked hard on it, but it is in BETA. Over the next couple months we will be adding a lot of features and function to the application. As well, we are working on making the site design more clear as to what Rhever is and what Rhever does. Again, we never expect to get this much exposure. If you don't like the application that is fine, you don't have to use it.

The software does not contain any adware or malware (which pretty much any virus scanner can tell you, so I don't know why this is such a hot topic for discussion) and it is not a scam , We have developed a propriety UseNet index that allows users to quickly download binary content from UseNet in the simplest way we could.

Yes, "Usenet File Sharing" might not be the best term to use (yet) because you do not "upload" , I get it, get over it, it's just a term.

In any case, you are entitled to your opinions but reading these comments for the past two days about a project we have worked hard on for the past 5 months is very disheartening.
I am not mad, but this is a personal project for me and Enigmax never tried to contact me or anyone here before posting this. I encourage Enigmax to contact me, I would be glad to discuss the details of the project with him.

scam.. if Rever really is pro file-sharing, they wouldn't be cutting down Bit torrent, which is much more efficient and safe than this dedicated server gimmick.

ao I wanted to test that, gave them my mail thingy, activated my account and then they wanted CC infos for activation.
Me does neither have a CC nore do i live under MAFIAA jurisdiction so they could extort money from me if I would use it to do illegal things, (which I hadn't in mind of course!)
So I looked in their faq what I can do next, and it says use the helpdesk link on the left!
I did. Thats what I got:

Your IP address,62.226.6.18 has been blocked.

Seems they really are only interested in american noob filesharers that might be easy pray once they violate copyrightlaw while using that service!

makes one suspicious how reliable they are as a provider for your legal files demands if they seems to be even unable to get simple clerical stuff like a whois record straight after one or mostly teh second try, don't you think?

<i><b>Patrick Nikoletich:
"I am the primary developer on Rhever and can assure you there is no malware, spyware or viruses contained within the installation."</i></b>

It's obvious that Rhever is a trap if there ever was one, so I can assure <i>you</i> that you really aren't fooling anyone, Mr. Shiteating MAFIAA Sockpuppet.

Clue #1 is the fact that half the marketting for Rhever revolves around regurgitating bullshit from the IFPI's propaganda department.

Clue #2 is the fact that for an unknown start-up business, Rhever sure has a prolific viral advertising campaign. One that many <i>established</i> companies could only dream of.

Clue #3 is the fact that Rhever tries to disguise that it's simply a Usenet client, behind claims that its some kind of new, revolutionary, 100% safe filesharing alternative to Bit Torrent/Limewire/Kazaa etc.

And finally, Clue #4 is the fact that the MAFIAA fucking loathes Usenet because they've historically been even more helpless to squeltch it than they have P2P. Finding a way to entrap Usenet users for downloading copyrighted material is one of their holiest of Holy Grails. A honeypot would fit the bill quite nicely, but how would someone go about making a Usenet honeypot?

They'd create a proprietary, closed-source Usenet client that requires your full name and billing information, along with a fee of $10 a month to use("Hey, let's fleece our victims before we sue them!"). And apparently, they'd call it <i>Rhever</i> because they think it's really clever to make a pun on 'reaver', since the purpose of the honeypot is to reave victims.

Oh, and lastly, one of their hired gimps would visit Torrent Freak and post under the name Patrick Nikoletich.

“I am the primary developer on Rhever and can assure you there is no malware, spyware or viruses contained within the installation.”

It’s obvious that Rhever is a trap if there ever was one, so I can assure you that you really aren’t fooling anyone, Mr. Shiteating MAFIAA Sockpuppet.

It must be a scam simple becaase of the laws involved!
If they exercise control over what is available thru the service then they don't fall under the safe heaven clause of the DMCA.
SO If you can get stuff that you allegedly interested in as a TF reader (the copyrighted stuff that is normaly illegal to download) that means that the R-guys are in for a few years in prison (coprightinfringement on a commercial scale does not fly so well in US courts these days)
And if they are not in for a few years then it means they have an arangement with the copyrightholders to offer their "virus free" downlaoding offer from dedicated servers they monitor, which would logically mean it's YOU the user of that service are in for troubel since it is then nothing more then a honey pot.

And if none of the 2 above alternatives apply, it means they offer only public domain and CC licensed stuff which will not get them in trouble so that service might not be a scam then, but is totally useless for "a typical" filesharer (even the newb ones that might actually fall for their offer though)

Stay away from them at all cost i say.
Note that IANAL and this is not legal advice, just common sense!

Bah, big deal - what are these guys really offering? Usenet access, and nothing but that! You could also get usenet access for free, although to get some decent servers you'll need to open up your pockets.

And, well, it's NOT p2p because users upload their files to the servers and other download it from the server, not from the original user with the file. Kinda like rapidshare.

Overall, they suck. I'll create a virtual machine and install their setup.exe to see what happens soon :P

I think Rhever is a play on the Reavers from Firefly. Meaning they'll rape you to death, eat your flesh, and sew your skin into their clothing. And if you're very, VERY, lucky, they'll do it in that order.

these videos are like those ridiculous mac-pc videos. they pretty much ensure i'll never use one. if you need to bash other peoples software to make yours look good, yours is probably junk too. you gain popularity by being better, not by making "clever" videos.
