I’d be amazed if anyone trusted “Rhever”.

We also don’t record anything because there is nothing to record. You can look at tcp packet captures to see exactly what is going on. We simply query the search server for what you want to query then your client connects to the news server directly and downloads the files. The news server is run by newshosting.com which is by most considered the second largest news server company in the world right behind giganews.

This information is a bit hidden because we want to make the client as easy to use as possible. Like I said before, we are only 3 months, but will be making great improvements by the end of the year.

It is my hope that a 3rd with some technical knowhow will analyze the program in depth to validate what I am saying, but until then I expect users to react with criticism.

Patrick Nikoletich (the main programmer, who posted here earlier) has been working very hard to develop this application with a team of two other people.
This software is still in Beta, in fact, it was only being used by a select group of friends as we were testing it out before this post attracted so much attention to us.

I agree, the website looks like a scam. We were not prepared to go live and had no idea our software would attract this kind of attention. The press releases were written and distributed by an over-zealous writer we hired from eLance.com.

For the animations, you can see these were posted over 8 months ago, we had them developed for fun, personally I think they are funny. It was never meant to be taken so literal.

The Rhever application works, and we have worked hard on it, but it is in BETA. Over the next couple months we will be adding a lot of features and function to the application. As well, we are working on making the site design more clear as to what Rhever is and what Rhever does. Again, we never expect to get this much exposure. If you don’t like the application that is fine, you don’t have to use it.

The software does not contain any adware or malware (which pretty much any virus scanner can tell you, so I don’t know why this is such a hot topic for discussion) and it is not a scam , We have developed a propriety UseNet index that allows users to quickly download binary content from UseNet in the simplest way we could.

Yes, “Usenet File Sharing” might not be the best term to use (yet) because you do not “upload” , I get it, get over it, it’s just a term.

In any case, you are entitled to your opinions but reading these comments for the past two days about a project we have worked hard on for the past 5 months is very disheartening.

It’s obvious that Rhever is a trap if there ever was one, so I can assure you that you really aren’t fooling anyone, Mr. Shiteating MAFIAA Sockpuppet.

Clue #1 is the fact that half the marketting for Rhever revolves around regurgitating bullshit from the IFPI’s propaganda department.

Clue #2 is the fact that for an unknown start-up business, Rhever sure has a prolific viral advertising campaign. One that many established companies could only dream of.

Clue #3 is the fact that Rhever tries to disguise that it’s simply a Usenet client, behind claims that its some kind of new, revolutionary, 100% safe filesharing alternative to Bit Torrent/Limewire/Kazaa etc.

And finally, Clue #4 is the fact that the MAFIAA fucking loathes Usenet because they’ve historically been even more helpless to squeltch it than they have P2P. Finding a way to entrap Usenet users for downloading copyrighted material is one of their holiest of Holy Grails. A honeypot would fit the bill quite nicely, but how would someone go about making a Usenet honeypot?

They’d create a proprietary, closed-source Usenet client that requires your full name and billing information, along with a fee of $10 a month to use(“Hey, let’s fleece our victims before we sue them!”). And apparently, they’d call it Rhever because they think it’s really clever to make a pun on ‘reaver’, since the purpose of the honeypot is to reave victims.

Oh, and lastly, one of their hired gimps would visit Torrent Freak and post under the name Patrick Nikoletich.

And if none of the 2 above alternatives apply, it means they offer only public domain and CC licensed stuff which will not get them in trouble so that service might not be a scam then, but is totally useless for “a typical” filesharer (even the newb ones that might actually fall for their offer though)

Stay away from them at all cost i say.

And, well, it’s NOT p2p because users upload their files to the servers and other download it from the server, not from the original user with the file. Kinda like rapidshare.

Overall, they suck. I’ll create a virtual machine and install their setup.exe to see what happens soon :P
