Download from BitTorrent and Usenet with Your Web Server
Written by Ernesto on January 09, 2008With TorrentFlux B4RT you can easily transform any webserver into a powerful, all-in-one filesharing portal. You can either pimp an old and unused desktop PC, or install it on a remote server.
Torrentflux b4rt is based on the original torrentflux web-based BitTorrent client, and designed to run off a web server. However, the modifications implemented in b4rt make it much more than a BitTorrent client. In fact, it supports 4 different BitTorrent clients, can download files from Usenet, supports multiple users, and allows you to stream media back to your desktop computer.
Torrentflux-b4rt started out as an attempt to integrate all the existing torrentflux hacks that users have made over the years. As they explain on their website: “torrentflux-b4rt was an attempt to sidestep the complicated mess of adding hacks and modifications to the base torrentflux system in a random way, as well as allowing users more choice in which BitTorrent clients they used with torrentflux.”
The software currently includes 4 different BitTorrent clients, Azureus, Transmission, BitTorrent mainline and BitTornado, which can be configured separately for every .torrent you download. In addition it can handle .nzb files to download easily from Usenet, and uses wGet to download files over HTTP/FTP.
Torrentflux-b4rt is pretty much a fully-featured filesharing portal, it comes with a built in file-manager that can extract rar-archives, and a great web-player (VLC) that allows you to stream media files to your local computer. The software is easy to install and configure through any web browser. It is an ideal solution if you want to manage your downloads on a computer other than your desktop machine.
The software runs on any Unix like OS. It has a command line version for advanced users, so you can set cron jobs to watch folders for new torrent files, automatically download .torrent files from RSS feeds, and much more.
Below is a screenshot of the index page, more info and screenshots can be found at TorrentFlux b4rt’s homepage.

awesome! :)
Been using TorrentFlux ever since I started running my server. Best thing ever in my opinion… stream everything from it since its in my house.
This is great but now try to find a webhosting that allow this or does not block ports or simply is affordable and support python.
Wish i could install on theses overselling host with their 1-2-5-10terrabytes bandwidth per months for less than 10$/month!! hahahaha
Keep up the good work guys!!
I’ve known about torrentflux-b4rt for ages, but it’s good to see it’s publicity spreading. :)
It’s my dream becoming reality!!! I’ve dreamed about a fully equipped TorrentFlux from the first moment I’ve used it. I’ll also write a review! Absolutely great!

Dude i use this for my seedbox, encrypt you’r traffic and youll se that your host dosent care.
Coolest thing ever?
Does anyone have a recommendations of any hosts that will allow this program?
I know sites like dreamhost, and the like, will cancel your account if they catch this…
YES! been looking for something like this.
The only drawback I’ve found with this client is that you can’t set a global upload/download speed!
that up/download speed IS kind of a let down but hey, it’s free.
You can set a global upload limit if you use azureus headless as backend.
MPlayer > VLC
Looks very nice, nearly as good as SABnzbd+, I’m still waiting for a torrent version of that Usenet newsgraber.

Wouldn’t utorrent webui be better for torrents?
@#13: MPlayer > VLC ?
Look at the command line interfaces and you will see, why this is not true.
Good to see this getting more publicity. Thanks TF.
Good tools :-) been using this for almost 1 year
I would prefer uTorrent Web GUI installed on Windows server.
I’ve used torrentflux many times, but read about the b4rt release about 6 months ago, just wish it would run on windows as well. (the old torrentflux didnt work as well on windows either) But yes Thanks for bringing this to the public eye! Truely a great app!
i like when people stream everything from it.

That’s not global, that’s per torrent. My main problems with TorrentFlux is that I had to constantly keep changing the upload/download limits of each individual torrent when I wanted to change the speed of everything. For example.. if I wanted to keep my upload limit to 30k/sec, I have to make sure I have the right balance of torrents running, at the corrent upload speed.. if I wanted to seed something else.. I would have to edit ALL of my seeding torrents to alter the upload speed! For my purposes, it was much more hassle than it’s worth.. but running on a dedicated private server somewhere, where local upload speed isn’t an issue.. this is where this client really shines!
I’ve been using rtorrent with screen (headless) on my Debian system for a year or so. It’s great. Low resource consumption, easy to use, lots of configuration options for experts.
Haven’t used the Torrentflux b4rt prog before, but it does look like it has a better UI.
