Also, I keep seeing blogs and tech sites going on about how much faster torrent downloading is compared with, say traditional P2P or a website's own server. I've found it to be the other way around. I can download massive files much faster from P2P (or could before it all turned to garbage files) and sites like archive.org. And judging from comment #33 here I'm not the only one who's noticed this.

These definitions were most helpful for me to understand what scrapes and super seeds are all about. However, there are two other terms I am trying to figure out and thus I'd love to see in the list of definitions -- Bad Seeder and Hit-And-Runner. Can someone fill me in on what these are? Thanx!

Being new to torrenting, the lingo is a bit overwhelming. This was a very nice introduction that cleared up quite a bit of the mystery associated with bit torrent jargon. Thank you.

I did have one question about sharing. I recently torrented a group of files that it appears that nobody wants. I just sit out there offering to seed with no takers. How long is a reasonable time to wait for a taker (it's been two days and I'm like insulted that in the whole world nobody liked this mp3, lol). So this is more of an etiquette question, along with a share ratio question. Would it be better to offer another "more desired" file rather than the "no taker" files.

NUKED -

A film can be nuked for various reasons. Individual sites will nuke for breaking their rules (such as "No Telesyncs") but if the film has something extremely wrong with it (no soundtrack for 20mins, CD2 is incorrect film/game etc) then a global nuke will occur, and people trading it across sites will lose their credits. Nuked films can still reach other sources such as p2p/usenet, but its a good idea to check why it was nuked first in case. If a group realise there is something wrong, they can request a nuke.

NUKE REASONS...

this is a list of common reasons a film can be nuked for (generally DVDRip)

BAD A/R = bad aspect ratio, i.e. people appear too fat/thin
BAD IVTC = bad inverse telecine; process of converting frame rates was incorrect.
INTERLACED = black lines on movement as the field order is incorrect.
