dumbass. Real musicians are motivated by passion for their art. Nobody makes money selling cd’s anymore. I personally put all my stuff on torrent sites myself, in an effort to draw in audiences for my live performances (the money-maker in today’s new Music Biz).

I stared work in the IT retail sector many years ago & “piracy” although low-key, existed then for the same reasons it exists now – GREED! 25ish years ago the meanest ‘game’ consisting of blocks moving around the screen retailed for around £30.00 what the hell did the software companies think was going to Happen? and it’s no different now (I paid almost £200 for win 7) make the software/ music/movie prices realistic and it could severley reduce piracy – oh but hang on, it would have done 25 years ago but the greed has continued & media producers have pursued a cause of action against the very pirates that their greed created, and now the pattern is set!
This pattern is unlikely to change even if the system does! reality check – 35 years ago it cost me the equivalent of 12 pence/cents to go & watch 2 movies – over & over if I wished now to see one movie & get turfed out at the end costs £8-10 – it cost 6 pence/cents to buy a vinyl single now it’s £5 for a CD single. Yes the media companies & artists/producers want the public at large to play fair – well my message is simple! this is a reasonable expectation as long as YOU SET THE EXAMPLE!

Most of the content that would be “protected” by the actions you propose are made by massive exploiting corporations whose bosses are filthy rich, don’t give a flying rat’s ass about the artists they milk for content, and will whine and cry at pirates to give them more money so they can buy that third new yacht. The actual artists who live off their work would be even worse off. Sharing their content would be nearly impossible under so much DRM and the massive corporations will only want more.

“Sue the ISPs” This guy is a moron. Has he never heard of terms of use?
Is it Limewire’s fault that every man and his dog used it for piracy?
Nope. Every user who installed it clicked ‘I Accept’ and agreed not to share any content which they were not legally permitted to. The agreement when choosing an ISP is pretty much the same.

Similar to the way that The Pirate Bay doesn’t offer illegal content. People can use it maliciously in the same way people can use cars maliciously. Does that mean it’s time to ban the manufacturing of cars? And confiscate all cars?

But motivation, or lack of it, is another human trait that cannot be ignored. If there is no incentive to work hard, why would you? If money were removed, you’d find we end up in a brutal, anarchistic world, very very quickly. Money is simply the obvious extension of the barter system, which would almost instantly begin again if you removed money.

Actually, I think she is spot on – torrent sites are exactly like drug dealers. They provide a service that is clearly in high demand, yet for some reason still outlawed by the powers that be. Give the people what they want…..fighting against is always going to be a losing battle. I foresee the future revenue of Musicians coming from actually playing music (gigs), with their recorded work being essentially nothing more than promotional material. This is how musicians made their money for millennia.
