[...] For the past couple years, the majority of my downloads have been torrents. I use uTorrent and PeerGaurdian 2 (both of which I highly recommend) and rarely am I not able to find (and obtain) what I’m looking for. I’m aware that I’m not alone, I know many people that use similiar methods for downloading, but I was surprised to hear that BitTorrent transfers make up about one third of all internet traffic. I know some people that still use programs such as Limewire and DC++, and I still use IRC and FTPs as well, but for the most part… Anyway, this was all supposed to lead up to me linking to this article, which offers one man’s opinion on why BitTorrent, and P2P in general, is doomed. Thoughts and feelings? [...]

[...] I hear BitTorrent transfers make up about one third of all traffic on the Internet these days. It seems rather likely that end users do in fact understand how P2P works. And unless their other online activities are hindered by BitTorrent or P2P, I don’t see users really having a problem with the uploads. Most don’t even bother uploading once their file has been download, and since the majority of users download torrents from public trackers, they aren’t forced to either.
When the stats say that 92% of traffic in S.Korea is eMule, what cachelogic mean is that 92% of BT, emule, gnutella, and FT traffic in SKorea is emule. If you actually look at what people use for p2p in s.korea, you find that its usually none of those four things. s.korea is full of file sharing services that are korean-only. Taiwan used to have a bunch of taiwanese services. oh, and japan has more broadband subscribers than s.korea.

But your basic point is bang on: no one knows whats going on. cachelogic dont know. they have their machine things in some places in some countries. but not everywhere. and things have changed in the last 12 or 18 months. and they'll carry on doing that.

Hi Bob

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Slyck but..

1. Apparently Ken looked at this... can't blame him..

Slyck reported this week:
Although BitTorrent would soon become the largest file-sharing network in terms of bandwidth consumption, eDonkey2000 never faded away

2. The article you link to has nothing to do with bandwidth consumption
