You can do a lot with seedboxes these days. I hit 120MB/s on a box I got from http://www.omegabox.me . I'm only paying just under $30 a month.

because, I for one hate watching moves on ITV with an ad break every 10 mins! (to be honest, I would never watch ITV for any other reason, IMO 90% is complete drivell)

I do believe that the licence fee is important (even though it is definitely a stealth tax) but as fee payers, its important to make sure we get value for money - as there are many worthwhile programmes, such as David Attenborough's documentaries, and the Open University, compare that to what is on offer in the rest of the world?!
That level of quality would disappear for sure without the fees, and we would be left with "celebrity this" and "talent show that" on every channel.

The BBC online offers a wealth of educational material from GCSE revision to English language tuition, with funds generated from the licence fee! It would be a crying shame to loose that!

Have you ever stopped to think why American football is so long when shown on tv? - the constant time-outs etc, or; the quater breaks in NBA for example. Compare that to when England's (real) football is shown the BBC, the coverage is uninterrupted as with Rugby, and F1 and MotoGP...

Why do you think "soap operas" are called "soap operas"?
Because they advertise laundry powers to housewives in the breaks!

Go back to your commercially manipulated content and close the door behind you! - you clearly don't know what you are paying for!

He should have the right to do this, if he has paid his licence fee ( a near obligatory stealth tax in the UK used to fund the BBC ). Plus, the BBC is supposed to be a public service network that is run with the needs of the people in mind. Of course, this doesn't explain 80% of the commercially orientated rubbish that they spew out at prime time. Incidentally, although the licence fee money is used to pay to maintain the web-sites, you do not have to pay the fee if you visit the websites but do not watch television.

A shame it never works out that way legally.

Mind you, since you don't need a licence unless you 'watch TV at the time that it is broadcast', as more and more people watch through the internet, less and less people will need to pay this regressive tax.

If the anonymous sharer were to use Dropbox, then he/she would be depending on another server to provide the content, rather than seeding it on an small, autonomous (albeit bargain-service-provided) server. The statement the user was making was that it is possible to serve *independently* this budget-cut content very cheaply to a potentially huge audience by taking advantage of P2P file distribution. Depending on a larger proprietary service would detract from the demonstration and message. (If anything, one could argue that more investment goes toward actual content creation and maintenance than server costs.)

As for archiving, I assume the user wanted to use a more mature format, but I agree that 7zip would be a better choice.
