I never had any issues with the old NTL modems when I was on 20Mbps and the newer super hub was fine too on 30Mbps.

Obviously you need a decent ISP. You were obviously not getting 150Mbps if you couldn’t even watch Youtube.

This was really interesting – especially when one can show that individuals who have “already payed for” a movie or what have you will still download (read: pirate , it just sounds so criminal doesn’t it?) said movie, tv series, etc. Of course pirating goes all the way into OS’s , games for everything (including cartridge-using games such as the Nintendo DS) not to mention expensive programs like Sony Vegas, etc. ad infinitum. I’ve heard in interviews with most of my favorite musicians that, in a nutshell, “I want people to download it as much as possible, it just helps my name and music spread” RZA says this, for example.

Unfortunately I don’t live in town so the best I can get is 7 Mbps fixed wireless with a low cap. ;-; If I lived in Peterborough even I could get 200 Mbps Bell Fibe (listed as 175 on their site but it’s 200 if you don’t get Fibe TV which I wouldn’t.) and download ALL the torrents!

Best part though is my ISP doesn’t give a shit if I torrent anything as long as they get their money.

The only two in Canada who care are Rogers and Shaw, and surprise, surprise! They own most of the TV market. Bell owns a lot of it, but their Internet division gives no shits as long as they get their money.

Even better here are the resellers like TekSavvy and Distributel, who will actually go to bat for you as has been written about here on TF before.

My 150mbps FIOS line couldn’t get SuperHD quality anywhere near what I was could get from newsgroups or other less-centralized protocols.

It was so fast I could effectively stream the video from Multi-rar archives by opening the first .RAR and letting the rest download as my Raspberry Pi played them.

Not only can I not make use of Netflix these days (shitty DRM player doesn’t work on GNU OSs), but I had no joy with SuperHD on either my 100/100 uni connection or my 150mbps FIOS connection. The video was so compressed, as was the audio quality.

SuperHD audio quality was really crap, lots of clipping and screeching at somewhat ‘high’ audio settings that just made it plain unpleasant. Tried it on a PS3, my computer, and a pretty nice TV (not one of those 300 USD 50 inchers).

And it didn’t look that great. Black levels were just terrible (worse than the normal HD actually), and it had some weird compression artifacts on red levels.

Netflix/YT are virtually unusable for HD on the 150mbps FIOS connection I was sitting on. I would have an auto downloader grab all the YT links I visited, and I just gave up on Netflix after a month for the much better alternatives out there providing much higher quality, especially in the audio department.
