How many “tipsters” (aka rats) actually end up getting paid or a share of the BSA’s settlement?

This is turning into 1930′s/1940′s Germany now… everyone rats out everyone else in a desperate attempt to do the “right” thing according to the propaganda they’re taking in.

So the BSA and I have about the same opinion about FB users. Seriously, providing “informations” about people from your addressbook without their consent is exactly what everyone at FB has been doing all the time. So why not earning some thirty Silverlings with it?

The reward may sound good to someone, but they only get it IF the person is successfully sued. And the amount they get is based upon how much the defendant pays. It’s also possible that no payment may be made in the case of settlement. And considering how long lawsuits take, it could easily be a year between the time they report the crime and when they get any money (if at all). Furthermore, it’s likely that payment is conditional upon the person testifying in court, so that everyone would know who they are. And whistleblowing is also known to be career ending, so one could ruin their lives and cost them thousands, if not millions, in income while the BSA benefits.
