It was a sad day when tv-links was no more. Hope everything works out for Dave Rock and he doesn't get the big end of the shaft. There are a slew of new tv-links sites now but I think the best I have found is tv-links.cc although I have not checked out tv-links.ws

LMAO @ the Hydra, take your American Imperialistic book 'the star fish and the bullshit' somewhere else.

That book is fundamentally flawed, centralisation V's Decentralisation.

Central or decentred is a completely conceptualised ideology, what one considers central is NOT considered central by others.

The Alcoholics anon example in the book states that Alcoholics Anon is decentralised because it has no infrastructural bases. How erroneous is that???

What on earth are the 12 steps if not a central premise? What on earth is the whole buddy system if not central?

What on earth are ISP's if not a central premise to the internet?

The book is rubbish DO NOT REPEAT IT'S CRAP.

'Like yeah, we should all be catalysts' get the f%*k outta town man.

In every example that book gives, there is an ongoing lack of sophisticated broadened knowledge.

Such as when it cites that the Native Americans were successful in defending their country because they were decentralised, LMFAO.

TELL THAT TO THE CENTRALISED US GOV WHO SYSTEMATICALLY STARVED THEM TO DEATH... read bury my heart at Wounded Knee, FFS.

Our governments have now made it law that people can be extradited without a trial in their own country. See the Enron British banker three.

Centralisation here is the power to change the law, Torrent site creators can now be taken from countries such as the Netherlands to face charges in countries such as the US, even though they did NOT break any law in their own country.

FACT and other lobbyists have made the UK government agree to make ISP's responsible for the net.

Soon one may be banned from the net and still have to pay the ISP. Furthermore, the number Of ISP's in the UK that are dropping all P2P traffic is on the increase, due to centralised lobbying and government law changes.

Encryption, Proxy's and tunnelling are fine for geeks such as I but the main bulk of Torrenters are not going to be able to use P2P networks, without facing extradition, ISP banning, and even legal fines. (not the suing of yester year)

AOL UK/CARPHONE WAREHOUSE already enforces this as do BT and Tiscali although all to differing lengths.

The power of centralisation then is kicking in, and P2P's will have to lobby, hide or simply not be able to use.

Do not quote that starfish bullshittery because it’s wrong beyond belief.

Regards

P.S. if a dam spider got wet it would move its leg, anyone who knows anything about spiders know they have a unique arachnid nervous system, one of the most complex in the world. It certainly wouldn’t let its foot drowned as the book would have you believe.
A spider is no more a centralised hierarchical system as a starfish, and to compare biology field notes to a complex human ideology is simplistic and erroneous.

Would really like to see what other tv-links (or other name of a site like it) that even comes close to top 100 most viewed pages on the internet, tv-links.co.uk was at its best on rank 78 right along with mininova and apple.com.

Take alluc just for an example since it started just around when tv-links.co.uk did (at it's old host 50webs). At it's best the site has been on ~600 in ranking, and now around 2000.

I do however agree that the shutdown lead to many other sites popping up, and that is good in one way.

Good: many sites to choose from and if yet one or more gets shut down, there's probably always another to go to.

Bad: I've been around on many of them but the "service" (speed of new series, functional links and the amount of them) just doesn't compare to tv-links.co.uk.

[ The reality was that he was receiving around $2 to $5 per day in donations from random site users, which he used to cover the server costs. ]

And the revenue from all those banner ads was given to charity.

The result of the TV-Links shutdown was only that a douzen other sites like it popped up, some getting even bigger then TV-Links was.

The Hydra principle is still in full swing and will hopefully last indefinatly.

I hope that this guy Dave R does something about it rather than let FACT just get away with it. Don't let FACT simply come to you Dave and say "ok,we are not going to do anything now"... don't roll over and give up.

Never let little sh*ts like this push you around. Get your lawyer to keep pushing for your stiff to be given back, and get them to ask what are they planning to do.

The EU Copyright Directive - Summary

Introduction
The Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 (?Regulations') implement the EU's E-Commerce Directive 2000 (?Directive'). The Regulations came into force on 21 August 2002 and seek to promote e-business and help build consumer confidence and protection.

Who do the Regulations apply to?

The Regulations apply to those who provide and receive "information society services", which are defined as services "normally provided for remuneration at a distance, by means of electronic equipment at the individual request of a recipient of a service".

Are there any exceptions to the Regulations?

The Regulations do not apply to a number of areas including taxation, particularly VAT, agreements or practices governed by ?cartel' law (e.g. the Competition Act 1998) and betting, gaming or lotteries.

What are the key features of the Regulations?
Introduction

The aim of the European Copyright Directive ("the Directive"), ratified in 2001, was to harmonise and update the copyright laws of member states to take account of the Internet and other new technologies, and address the concerns of copyright owners over the threat posed by infringers. The Directive was implemented into UK law with effect from 31 October 2003 by the Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 2003.
Scope

The Directive concerns the legal protection of copyright with particular emphasis on the information society. The Directive does not affect the legal protection of computer programs and databases; rental right, lending right and related rights; copyright and related rights applicable to broadcasting of programmes by satellite and cable; or the term of protection of copyright and related rights.
Core Rights

The Directive clarifies the exclusive rights given by copyright, in particular the right of reproduction of a work, and the right of communication and making a work available to the public, so that the rights are "technologically neutral".
Exceptions

The Directive provided a limited exception for service providers, telecommunications operators and certain others, for temporary and transient copies made as an integral part of a technological process.

In addition, the Directive contained a number of optional exceptions and limitations, some of which have been taken up by the Regulations, and the existing exemptions found under UK copyright law have been amended in a number of ways. The exceptions for research, education and librarians are now limited to non-commercial use. The exception for criticism, review and news reporting now only applies once a work has been lawfully made public. The optional exception under the Directive for private copying for non-commercial ends, subject to rights holders receiving fair compensation, was not implemented in the UK.
Technical protection measures and rights management

The Directive required member states to provide adequate legal protection against the circumvention of technological measures to control the use of a copyright work through an access control or protection process such as encryption, scrambling or other transformation of the work. The Regulations widen the existing provisions aimed at those who circumvent copy-protection, and introduce new civil remedies and criminal offences. In the related field of digital rights management information, there are new civil remedies but no new criminal offences.

The law stated in this guideline is believed to be correct as at 1 March 2004.

This guideline does not purport to be comprehensive or give specific legal advice. Before any action is taken on matters covered in this guideline, you should obtain professional advice.

Yes there are many other sites like it (more sites = harder to shut down them all = good), http://www.tv-links.ws/ got mentioned because that's the site the original crew from tv-links.co.uk started after a while. Despite what other sites may say (seen many that claim they are the original crew) http://www.tv-links.ws/ IS where they went.

it is quite pathetic that they would take down a site simply linking to other sites that host videos that may or may not contain copyrighted material.

to think they have nothing better to do with their lives.

next we hear about 12 year olds being busted for looking at porn because you technically have to 18 to view it. p-a-t-h-e-t-i-c.

and the grammar nazis can suck it.

and canuck ( canadian law) has recently said that the user has choice to goto those links and htus you could argue that YOU are the person responsible for getting a torrent file or other link

WOW what a concept, me being responsible for crossing the street with a red light.

Me being responsible for aiming a loaded gun at the mpaa presidents head and firing.

Me being responsible for my own actions.

WHAT A CONCEPT.
Guess what the MPAA/RIAA is saying is you are TOO STUPID to be responsible and therefore everything you do is your fault already.
