Canada does way too many favours for the US government for them to bother us about this. There are many places in the world where the US cannot go without bringing war, simply because of how aggressive they are both policically and militarily.

It was recently revealed that CSEC (Canada's NSA) had been doing intelligence gathering for themselves and the US in nations that the US isn't so welcome. It went as far and agents with feet on the ground in these places, and the secret installations of surveillance equipment. They never revealed what nations though.

Although Canada is directly above the US, we have no US military here, and never have. We work hand in hand with the US; get their protection as a massive ally, and get away with what we want pretty much. The US even has Canadian CSEC agents working in the NSA, and Canadians have always been stationed at NORAD headquarters in Colorado.

My point is that we get away with shit like this easily. This is nothing compared to some of the things the US has ignored from their own industries before when crying.

Canada is one of the few nations on earth where the US actually respects its independence on a deep level. The UK as well. Actually, the US, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand are all each others guard dogs when it comes to international politics. About the closest group of allied nations on earth.

I torrent from a Canadian based ip, but I'm not in Canada.
Go ahead and make it all illegal, we don't care and will not buy your product when you prosecute and persecute us. "We" are your best customers, or used to be.
Good luck trying to arrest your best customers. It will not work out, but go ahead and keep fighting the good fight. Spend that money!

What's interesting though, and I've heard this several times, is that there are rumours that Photoshop is priced at $600 for a reason. Photoshop is supposedly extremely easy to crack and pirate in the first place so they can distribute their software easily to a younger demographic who likely won't have the money for the software anyway. However, in doing so, this gets the younger demographic interested in digital design, and gets them comfortable solely using Photoshop in the first place. This way, Photoshop stays an industry standard even with free tools such as GIMP, etc. As more people become interested in digital design and as the younger demographic enters the design industry, they or their company will need to pay for the software and at that point Adobe can charge whatever they want and have people pay for it.
