I have always pirated anything overpriced, yet I pay for a netflix subscription, I pay for games if they are on sale at a decent price… I don’t pay for ebooks as I don’t like paying 85% of the price for no physical book… Yet I buy the physical books used regularly. Interestingly enough, the selection on netflix is crippled in Canada, so those content creators who would have gotten some of my money through netflix end up getting nothing as its pirated…

ignore these scumbags and block them out by using peer-block loaded with lots of Block lists especially Squid IP block-lists! Go with TekSavvy then if you can.

At least TekSavvy stood up for their customers against Voltage (and spent somewhere around $500,000 or more doing it in legal fees), they won’t terminate your services at all.

So clearly the easiest way to combat this is to just throw the notice in the garbage.

If I download something and my ISP (TekSavvy) sends me a notice, who cares who it’s from as far as Rightscorp?

They have absolutely no jurisdiction here in Canada legally (even if they do partner with a lawyer here in Toronto) and TekSavvy will do nothing about it either. So for a $20, $50 or even $100 “fine”, Rightscorp has to go through a lawyer to collect. Given the fact they plan on going through a major law firm, their fees are minimum $300-$500 an hour. They’re going to chase me for $100 or take me to court? Please.

I’m hoping for the first 1000 notices they send out, 999 go in the trash and then they’ll start to get the message quickly.

So if a person is stupid enough to pay Rightscorp, in essence, they are outing themselves to these trolls?

I can only imagine once a person thinks they are paying for one infringement, they will get many, many more in the mail afterwards. It’s going to be like a never-ending traffic ticket… you pay, pay, pay and pay again for an infringement once you owe up to the first one.
