If it was up to the MPAA, every website with links to copyright infringing files would be banned from the Internet. Perhaps they should take a closer look at their own website first though, since it's vulnerable to an XSS attack, making it possible to browse The Pirate Bay directly from the MPAA website.

It is no secret that the MPAA and other anti-piracy outfits rather spend their money on lawyers than web-designers or coders. Unfortunately for them this sometimes leads to awkward situations. For example, it turns out that the MPAA website is vulnerable to XSS attacks allowing the public to inject images, frames and all sorts of random code into the site.

About a year ago the RIAA website suffered from a similar vulnerability and was wiped clean. The RIAA fixed the problem within a few hours and eventually all the ‘lost’ content was restored, but not before thousands of people had fun with it.

The XSS vulnerability on the MPAA website was found on the about page where visitors can submit their favorite movie. In the screenshot below it says “thank you for taking the time to share your favorite movie,” which is the actual text that people get to see when they fill out the form. The Pirate Bay logo and the links to the latest movie torrents are obviously not supposed to be there.

It is “a proof of concept that demonstrates an XSS attack on mpaa.org website,” writes Vektor who covered the details in a blog post, adding that it should be taken as a joke. No lies there, as it made us smile indeed.

Today a brand new movie has premiered but this is not the usual Hollywood-style launch. 'Blank', described as an intense psycho-thriller by director Rick L. Winters, will debut on DVD but you can get it for free on BitTorrent too - with the blessing of the entire cast and crew.

Times are certainly changing and slowly but surely people are beginning to realize that rather than trying to fight piracy and destroy file-sharing networks, the best approach is to embrace your one-time rivals and try and create something positive.

Established in 2000 by director Rick L. Winters, Annodam Productions is an independent film company. A forward looking outfit, Annodam will premiere its latest movie ‘Blank‘, worldwide today.

‘Blank’ is the story of a Johnny, a young boy who witnesses the violent death of his parents and older sister. Roll on some 20 years later and Johnny becomes involved in crime with his adoptive father – who is also a crime boss. While watching a game of poker Johnny discovers who murdered his family and sets about planning his revenge. Johnny unwittingly becomes involved with a pair of serial killers and the whole movie climaxes with a bizarre and shocking end.

While the plot may seems standard Hollywood fare, the way this movie has been financed and is set to be distributed is not – Director Rick L.Winters explains, “The thing that makes this film unique is that it is a co-op based concept where the entire cast and crew worked on a deferred percentage of the film’s gross. In other words, the cast and crew own a percentage of the film’s gross, so the profits are not going to Hollywood executives but instead into the pockets of the filmmakers themselves.”

After receiving several distribution offers for ‘Blank’, Rick turned them all down.

“I have seen firsthand the greed that lurks in the Hollywood corporate circles,” he said while explaining that after he released his first film, the cast and crew couldn’t understand why a distribution company was making all the money. So instead, Rick decided to let the audience distribute ‘Blank’ for him – via BitTorrent.

“This time around the fate of the cast and crew getting paid is in the hands of the audience who watch the film. No Hollywood bank accounts being filled to turn out more crappy remakes,” he said, while adding that the future of film is “in the home market, through peer to peer distribution.”

Today, ‘Blank’ is released on DVD for $14.99, via online streaming and of course, for free on BitTorrent. “No one should have to pay for a film they did not like,” says Rick. “No one should be denied the right to enjoy the art of film.”

The idea is that if people like the movie after they have seen it, they should go to the ‘Blank’ website and make a donation. People are asked to donate what they feel the movie is worth, and in return will be invited to follow the production of the next movie, which they will have helped finance through their donation.

Rick told TorrentFreak, “I am excited with the aspects of peer to peer distribution and the possibilities. Giving everyone the opportunity to see my film for free in hope of receiving donations is a little nerve wrecking – wondering if I will receive enough donations to make my next film. The concept is still scary for independent filmmakers who don’t have the big budgets like the big studios and most of the time drain their personal accounts and run up credit just to get their film made, in hopes of recouping the cost of making the film.”

Several large BitTorrent sites including Mininova will be offering ‘Blank’, but undoubtedly it will spread to many others too. Rick L. Winters is also writing a book which will document the whole process so that others can use the same methods to distribute their own movies.

“I can only hope for the success of this endeavor to show the world that the revolution of peer to peer distribution can no longer be ignored and the time is now,” Rick told TorrentFreak. “I decided to try the concept of a coop base film in hopes of encouraging other independent filmmakers to come together and create and share the art of film for EVERYONE to enjoy.”

Congratulations to Rick and the crew for effectively ending the piracy of their movies and we wish them the best of luck with ‘Blank’ and all future success.

You can grab the torrent for the movie from Mininova.

As 2008 moves toward its end, we have been taking a a look at the most pirated titles in various categories. Following our Top 10 games post where 'Spore' headlined, we now take a look at movies. Unsurprisingly, The Dark Knight comes out on top, with the rest of the chart featuring a few surprising entries, and some unexpected absentees.

Mirroring its success at the box office, The Dark Knight is leading this list of 2008’s most pirated movies on BitTorrent. Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, the sequel to ‘Batman Begins’ holds the record for the best opening week and weekend in movie history, and has grossed close to a billion dollars worldwide.

The film’s success doesn’t stop at the box office either. Earlier this week the DVD was released, and on the first day in stores 3 million copies were sold in the United States, Canada and the UK.

Alongside these impressive real-world sales, the film beat the competition on BitTorrent and other filesharing networks too. With more than 7 million downloads on BitTorrent alone, The Dark Knight now holds the title of most pirated movie of 2008. Comments on various BitTorrent sites reveal that many downloaders obtained an illegal copy after they had already watched the movie in the movie theater.

As with every other blockbuster, ‘The Dark Knight’ was leaked onto the Internet in various formats. It began right after the premiere in July with a cammed version, which was celebrated by the folks from The Pirate Bay. The ‘cam’ was followed by a DVD-screener in early September, and a DVD in November. The latter release turned out to be the most popular among filesharers.

As we look over the rest of the top 10, we see that there are quite a few differences between popularity at the box office, and on filesharing networks. ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’, for example, came in second at the box office, but only came in 30th place in the download chart. On the contrary, ‘The Bank Job’ is the third most pirated movie on BitTorrent, but just 66th at the box office.

The data for this list is collected by TorrentFreak from several sources, including reports from all the large BitTorrent trackers. All formats, including cammed versions are counted, and based on previous experience a correction is made for smaller .torrent releases that we might have missed.

Michael Moore's new film about the run up to the 2004 US election was released online today, only for US and Canada residents. In order to maximize capacity, they've even embraced BitTorrent, and the official download is using the Pirate Bay tracker. To the dismay of their lawyers, however, this also lifts the geographical restrictions.

The film, intended by Moore “to bring out millions of young and new voters on November 4th.”, covers his tour just prior to the 2004 US Presidential election, rallying to protest against President Bush. It covers a 42 day tour, over 60+ cities, and the obstacles put in place by Republicans.

To some this might not seem like a worthy event for TorrentFreak to cover, after all, films come out every week. However, this film markets itself as “…the first time ever that a major feature-length film is debuting as a free download on the Internet – legally.” – a title that could arguably fall to Steal This Film. Yet, its the interaction between the legal and technical aspects that are the biggest story here.

First and foremost, the film’s website states that downloads are available in the US and Canada only. It states this not just once, but twice AND uses an IP lookup system to check. If you fail the IP check, you are told that the lawyers have said the film can only be offered to people in those countries.

It’s such a ’shame’ then, that they have used BitTorrent. Worse, they’ve used a set of public trackers (including The Pirate Bay), and allowed the use of both Peer Exchange and DHT. Clearly, all it needs is for someone to offer the .torrent to other people, and they can download the film, as the torrent protocol has no methods for limiting by geographical location. Indeed, as you can see on this screenshot, there are plenty of people on the torrent from outside North America.

Is this deliberate, or accidental? Moore is known for his disregard of rules (and laws) in making films (such as his Cuba trip for Sicko), and this could be the latest example. Alternatively, it could be a lack of understanding on the part of those that are providing the technical backend.

However, with a budget of $2 million for distribution, Brave New Films could have done better, and have set up their own tracker, enforcing a US and Canada only download. Not that this would have helped much. It’s the Internet, and once it’s downloaded, it can be retorrented. In that they might be foresighted enough to try and keep the downloads together, strengthening the swarm.

Bell, one of the Canadian ISPs known for its BitTorrent throttling practices, launched its very own video download store this week. So, efficient BitTorrent is throttled for being a bandwidth hog, but customers are still able to download movies at full speed - as long as they use Bell's service, that is.

In their recently launched video download store Bell offers movies to own for $4.99, and rentals for $1.99.

At the same time however, customers of BitTorrent’s video store – a direct competitor to Bell’s store – and BitTorrent users in general see their traffic being throttled. Why? Bell says there is not enough bandwidth available.

The claim that there is not enough bandwidth to go round is suspicious to say the least, and Bell’s response to this data crisis is even more puzzling. Instead of investing money in their network capacity, they simply slow down the connections of their subscribers while ignoring the source of the problem.

To top it off, Bell decided to launch a competing video download service. So while they throttle customers using the efficient BitTorrent protocol because they supposedly generate too much traffic, Bell launches a bandwidth-hogging download store of their own. Not only does this seem unfair to their own customers, it also negatively affects other video services that base their business model on BitTorrent.

The throttling efforts by Bell and other ISPs actually hurt companies such as BitTorrent Inc and Vuze. These companies both offer products that depend on BitTorrent and they become pretty much worthless when BitTorrent traffic is throttled.

Since Bell now has its own video store, the ISP is actively degrading the service their BitTorrent based competitors offer. That is, Bell users will probably not choose a video download service based on BitTorrent because they can get only a few kilobits per second when the network is “busy”.

Instead of investing in more Internet gateway capacity and peering agreements, Bell instead chooses to launch a video store. Perhaps it’s time for Bell and other ISPs to think ahead – BitTorrent is not going away and there will only be more ‘bandwidth hogging’ services in the future.

Last weekend, a CAM version of the Norwegian movie "Lange Flate Ballær II" leaked onto several BitTorrent sites. Quite surprisingly, the producer doesn't hold a grudge against the person who leaked the film. Instead, he thinks it's an honor that someone took the effort to record it in a movie theater.

The movie, which is highly successful in Norwegian theaters, was posted on one of Norway’s largest BitTorrent sites early Sunday morning. Within hours, hundreds of people had already downloaded the movie, which is directed by Harald Zwart, one of Norway’s most famous directors.

Contrary to what most people would expect, Zwart doesn’t hold a grudge against the people who share his movie online though, as he told Nettavisen.no: “I think it’s perfectly fine that some people choose to post the movie online. It shows that people are interested in it”, says the director, and is supported by Espen Horn – the movie’s producer.

“In the IT society of today it’s naive to think that this wouldn’t happen. We consider it a huge compliment. After all, what has happened is that someone has smuggled a camera into a theater and then recorded the whole movie” he added.

Zwart doesn’t mind that people share his movie online, he did, however, make some negative comments about the quality of the recording. “The movie was filmed using a video camera in a local cinema somewhere. The quality is bad, and the movie definitely is better in theaters,” Zwart said.

Espen Horn, the director of the movie, thinks that piracy is inevitable, as long as there are no alternatives available. Horn said that some forms of piracy are “unfortunate”, but he would rather one “beat the pirates to it” instead of hunting them down. For example, by making the movies available for sale online, soon after they premiere in theaters.

“People today have all this equipment available at home, and it’s a simple thing for them to copy movies and music. This is the time to play on the same team as the ones who make available this kind of materials. I hope those who watch this copy will think the quality is bad, and go watch it at the movies instead.” Horn added.

Indeed, one of the driving forces behind piracy is still the lack of alternatives. Restricting people’s choices often has the opposite effect.

Thanks SantaBJ!

As previously shown, BitTorrent can be a boon to the independent film-maker. Usually a lack of money restricts the distribution of a film, but occasionally the content works against it. As well as the promotion of new, aspiring talent, torrents can be used to spread films which may be politically discouraged from more usual methods.

One such example is the recent release of ‘Route Irish‘, a film mainly about the protests at Shannon Airport in Ireland, over its assistance to the United States, in the latter’s actions against Afghanistan, and Iraq. Produced through Indymedia Ireland, it is a 90 minute documentary compiling footage donated over the last few years to its editor, Eamonn Crudden. “10 peoples footage,” he replied when asked about the video’s source, “copyleft is what they had in common and it made this film possible really.”

Crudden claims that the film would not gain coverage in Ireland, due to certain clips contained in the film, pointing out the American taking pictures around 16 minutes into the film, to TorrentFreak as an example. Usually, such low-budget independent releases would have been put on videotape, copied a few dozen times, and passed around those already interested in the topic, a videographic samizdat as it were. With the advent of BitTorrent, the reach of the film-maker has exploded.

When asked why he decided to to release via BitTorrent, Crudden, who described himself as ‘pretty untechnical’, said “Basic answer is I saw Steal this Film and read I stuff kind of in an academic way by Eben Moglen and an Irish guy called Alan Toner and they just argued that this was the maximum efficient system in history for distributing stuff. I also thought it might get out of an activist ghetto that way too.” And get out of the ghetto it has. Whereas, he explained, it used to take “months and months to get rid of 100 VHS tapes of a documentary back in the day,” according to the tracker stats, since its release it was downloaded more than 1000 times.

One of the comments to the first part asked “can we get the cost to make a film low enough to enable a blue-collar moviemaker scene?” Eamonn thinks so, and is working on that, as a part time tutor in film production in Queens University, Belfast. He also has a word of warning for the major Hollywood studios. “[It] makes entry level at a global level easy for people without gatekeepers and cliques determining what gets made. It will get very interesting when a generation really familiar with it start bypassing institutional production AS WELL AS distribution”

The production and dissemination of work which may otherwise be censored is a significant non infringing use of P2P that no court should be quick to dismiss. No court that values free speech anyway.

The torrent for Route Irish is available here.

The popularity of movies and TV-shows hasn’t gone unnoticed, with some TV-studios allegedly use BitTorrent as a marketing tool, and others leaking unaired pilots intentionally. Independent filmmakers also benefit from spreading their files on BitTorrent. It is completely free and enables them to reach a huge audience.

We made a list of the most downloaded movies and TV-shows of 2007, including the number of downloads the most popular torrents got on Mininova. Note that the actual download count is much higher since there are often more torrents for the same file, and there are more BitTorrent sites of course.

The data used for these lists is retrieved from Mininova and considered to be a representative sample.

As we have pointed out before, the entertainment industry should learn how to embrace technology and compete with piracy, instead of fighting its customers. The rise of illegal downloading is a signal that customers want something that is not available through other channels, it’s more about availability than the fact that it’s free, as illustrated by the huge number of downloads TV-shows have.

There have been Harry Potter spoilers popping up all over the web since the 7th book was leaked before its release. Some have shown up on websites, others in e-mail signatures. The most unexpected, though, are in a DVDrip of "Evan Almighty".

The person responsible for this highly amusing surprise is Len over at netgraffiti.tk. He’s taken it one step further from posting spoilers on web pages and has managed to add some to a DVDrip of the movie “Evan Almighty”.

You might be of the opinion that it serves those nasty Harry Potter-reading pirates right. But this doesn’t have anything to with “piracy”. Fans of the book are so upset that Len’s done this, they’re posting death threats on his site. Here’s one:

Go f*** yourself

Len, if you don’t like this world and what we do, then go slit your fucking wrists rather than spoiling a perfectly good film and shocking little kids.

P.S. I work as a butcher.

Drastic, for sure. But it shows you how much people love J.K. Rowling’s books and how far they’re willing to go in order to ensure they aren’t “spoiled” before they read the book. Possibly fearing such a backlash after the leak, Rowling posted a message on her website, requesting fans not to spoil the book for others. She didn’t seem to care that people were downloading it illegally, though.

I’d like to ask everyone who calls themselves a Potter fan to help preserve the secrecy of the plot for all those who are looking forward to reading the book at the same time on publication day.

Here’s a clip from the “Evan Almighty” DVDrip with the spoilers in it. Blind dragons and book 7 spoilers ahead. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

OscarTorrents.com is the pirate alternative for the Academy Awards, and was supported by the popular BitTorrent tracker The Pirate Bay. The website launched early February, and offered torrents for all the 2007 Oscar nominees. Everyone could download and watch the movies, and then vote for their favorite.

The project turned out to be a great success, over 100.000 votes were casted in less than three weeks. It is not sure if there will be another OscarTorrents night next year, if it is up to the OscarTorrents team, there wont be.

On the site we read” “to the MPAA and Big Hollywood. We hope we won’t have to do this again next year. Hopefully you’ll do it for us”

BitTorrent Inc has released the final details of their long awaited video store. The store itself will go live this Monday, and will offer movie rentals at $2.99 - $3.99, and "download to own" TV shows and music videos for $1.99. The "BitTorrent Entertainment Network" will start off with 5000+ titles in their collection, including movies such as Superman Returns and An Inconvenient Truth, and the popular TV show 24.

BitTorrent will sell content from Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, Lions Gate, Palm Pictures, and their latest partner MGM. All videos will be high quality, and encoded with the best possible codecs according to BitTorrent Inc. CEO Bram Cohen, and the downloads are expected to be much faster than most competitive services.

Ironically, pirated copies of some of the titles in their store can also be downloaded illegally through the BitTorrent.com search engine, that indexes BitTorrent trackers like The Pirate Bay.

Marc Brandon, Vice President Anti-Piracy Internet Operations at Warner Bros., one of the content partners of BitTorrent Inc, told TorrentFreak that it is virtually impossible to make sure pirated copies don’t slip through, but that both Warner and BitTorrent Inc are trying hard to remove these unauthorized DVDrips. And indeed, over the past month more and more illegal DVDrips disappeared from the search results.

The BitTorrent store will use Windows DRM to <del>infect</del> <ins>protect</ins> the movies and TV shows. This means that Mac & Linux users wont be able to use the service. Bram Cohen said before that the DRM issue is causing an awful lot of headaches, but that most of their content partners are insisting on DRM, at least for now.

BitTorrent Inc president and co-founder, Ashwin Navin is not a fan of DRM either, and is a bit more outspoken about it. He said that DRM is “a time bomb waiting to happen,” and that it will inspire people to pirate content.

Personally, I think Navin’s right, piracy wont be defeated that easily, and online video stores like the “BitTorrent Entertainment Network” will only be successful if they offer a product that is at least equal to its pirated equivalent. At this time, only DRM-free content that’s “download to own” (versus rentals/subscriptions) seems to have a chance at competing with piracy.

A new project by the name of Aufero integrates BitTorrent in the Windows Vista Media Centre. According to the unnamed developer, Aufero is an attempt to bring BitTorrent content to your living room sofa.

Whatever faithful Mac/Linux users like me might say, there’s no denying that Windows XP is the most widely used operating system, and it’s only inevitable that Vista will inherit the thrown from its ageing predecessor. Therefore, the most important platform for any BitTorrent developer is Windows. And what better way for BitTorrent to take on mainstream media stores like iTunes than to nestle itself right in the middle of what will be the most widely used media centre software? If there’s one thing that can give the AppleTV a run for its money, it’s a BitTorrent media centre.

Aufero is everything you’d want in a media centre. Here’s a list of features.

It lets you:

manage any existing media you have.

create a “wish list” of videos you would like to watch, and then have those videos automatically downloaded once they become available.

view trailers, reviews and previews, and download torrents related to them.

manually download torrents you feed it.

seamlessly playback videos in an array of formats on your Xbox 360 (not just WMVs).

receive “subtle notifications” on your screen after something on your wish list has been found, downloaded, unpacked, indexed and moved into your library.

receive e-mail notifications of relevant events when you’re not in front of your TV.

Lastly, Aufero is simple to use and tries to increase the “wife appeal” by making it easy for less tech-savvy people to make use of.

Best of all, it sounds like the developer is planning to release Aufero under an open source license. I think Microsoft should be thanking him, because he’s just created a worthy Windows-based competitor to the AppleTV. Sadly, there’s almost no chance of that happening. For his own “protection”, the developer isn’t disclosing anything about himself, not even his name. All we know is that he (or she?) is Dutch.

Aufero is not yet available for download, as it’s in the early alpha testing phase. If you look at some of the screenshots, this is made obvious by the current UI, which is rather unpolished. But the developer stresses that it’s not complete yet.

The Pirate Bay and its young owners have reached a new level of fame. They're no longer just Internet personalities, they're now mainstream celebrities. The March issue of Vanity Fair is carrying a 6 page article on BitTorrent, movie piracy, torrent sites, and in particular, The Pirate Bay.

The article titled “Pirates of the Multiplex” discusses the new age of sharing movies over the Internet with the help of technologies like BitTorrent. The author describes his experience with UKNova, a torrent site of which he was a member. It allowed him to view old British TV shows and any number of movies. He says, it “changed [his] life.”

He then goes on to talk about one of the most popular torrent sites of them all, The Pirate Bay. While talking about the Neij & Gottfrid, the owners of the site, the author doesn’t make them out to be something they’re not. His description is honest. And yet, the The Pirate Bay pair come out looking cool.

If Svartholm and Neij’s experience sounds like something out of a generic mid-90s cyber-thriller, neither of them is exactly leading-man material. Neij, a 28-year-old who is the more gregarious of the pair, is a scruffy, impish type who regards his outlaw status with wry detachment; Svartholm is a sad-eyed 22-year-old with wispy hair and near-translucent skin that positively scream out “Dungeons and Dragons Master.”

So, when did server admins turn into superstars? Well, it’s been a long time coming. The Pirate Bay is possibly one of the most well known sites on the Internet. And even though “mininova” was one of the most googled words of 2006, The Pirate Bay is better known to the press. The site’s name personifies BitTorrent and movie “piracy” better than anything else can ever hope to. And each attempt to take them down only makes them more popular.

The Vanity Fair piece is lengthy and covers a lot of things, including the MPAA’s struggle to stamp out piracy, the increasing losses of Hollywood, and how the “heartfelt testimony of of Ben Affleck, a man who was paid $12.5 million to star in Gigli,” didn’t help one bit. It’s definitely worth a read.

For the first time, a 'cracked' Blu-Ray movie has been uploaded to BitTorrent. And no, it's not that 'Vivid' title that the TWiT hosts seem to be oh so familiar with. It's just the opposite. The first Blu-Ray movie on BitTorrent is the children's animation flick, Ice Age 2.

Who said toddlers don’t need their hi-def BitTorrent fix? Lesson learnt: It’s not always the porn industry leading the way. Children’s movies and animation films are possibly just as popular, albeit with a younger audience.

We recently reported on the first HD-DVD movie to be leaked onto BitTorrent. Now, the first Blu-Ray title has gone up. Once again, the private BitTorrent tracker, HDBits.org, is where the action’s at. The site lead the way by playing host to the first HD-DVD torrent. Now they can also take credit for serving up the first Blu-Ray torrent.

Slightly larger than the HD-DVD movie, the Ice Age 2 Blu-ray torrent is some 22 GBs. The first HD-DVD torrent, Serenity, was 19.6 GBs.

Here’s a screenshot of the torrent, courtesy of HDTV Blogger.

The HD-DVD has been cracked, and high definition content is now being distributed freely over BitTorrent. We all knew this would happen sooner or later, looks it was "sooner". The first HD-DVD to be uploaded to BitTorrent is Serenity, the Firefly movie.

It hasn’t even been a month since the HD-DVD ripper, BackupHDDVD was released and we’re already seeing high definition feature films pop up on torrent sites. Other than Serenity, it is rumoured that HD-DVDs of the movies Batman Begins, Chronicles of Riddick, 12 Monkeys and King Kong have been decrypted and consequently shown up on torrent sites. Yesterday, a handful of hackers figured out how to extract the unique volume key from HD-DVDs.

According to HDTV Blogger, the torrent is “a 19.6GB file in native EVO format that should play on PowerDVD and WinDVD with HD DVD playback.” Apparently, he got a “very, very nasty email” after posting about the first HD-DVD torrent. It seems the anonymous mailer was upset at the fact that he was bringing unnecessary attention to the P2P community. Looks like his plan just backfired.

The anonymous mailer also claims that HDTV Blogger is violating the BitTorrent site’s copyright by posting a screenshot of the site. “By posting that screencap you have violated the copyright of the tracker by posting an image and text that is own by them. You should remove the screencap before legal action is taken upon you.” – is this guy for real?

This a series of three BBC documentaries that show how fear is an ultimate tool for politicians to preserve their power. As director Adam Curtis puts it, "Instead of delivering dreams, politicians now promise to protect us: from nightmares."

One of the central questions the documentary poses is, Could it be that the image of a well-organized international terrorist conspiracy is just a myth? The impressive documentary does not say that there are no terrorist threats at all. It just doubts whether it is as well-organized, and world threatening as some politicians and fanatic leaders want us to believe.

Curtis illustrates his point by comparing the rise of Neoconservatism in America and the Islamic Fundamentalism in the Middle East. He argues that both are closely related, and that both parties profit from misconceptions, and exaggerated, illusory threats.

To date the series of documentaries was never shown on American TV. Curtis tried to get it on American TV, but he was told by a head of the leading networks that there was no way they could show it. ‘We would get slaughtered if we put this out,‘ was the response of the man in charge of one of the leading TV networks.

The three documentaries first aired on BBC TWO in the autumn of 2004. An updated version was broadcast in late January, 2005. The series been shown in several other countries and is now available as a free download.

The Secret Life of Adolf Hitler is a TV documentary from 1958, narrated by Westbrook Van Voorhis, that ended up in the public domain. The documentary includes some rare homemade videos shot by Eva Braun, and interviews with his sister Paula Wolf, his driver, and other people that surrounded him.

The documentary is a sensational piece, which is clearly illustrated by the opening line: “The swastika of the Nazi party… it is gone today, blasted from the earth… but the memory of its evil genius remains.”

The documentary attempts to summarize Hitler’s (secret) life including WWII in only 52 minutes, which is impressive. Most interesting are the interviews with Hitler’s sister, and other people who were close to him.

The historical facts may not always be correct, but the documentary is definitely worth watching if you’re interested in the story behind Adolf Hitler and WWII.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964) is considered to be one of the worst movies ever made. It is so bad, that it is actually fun to watch. The filmmakers were probably too embarrassed to renew the copyright, so it's now in the public domain.

The story shows how Santa Claus is kidnapped by Martians to cheer up the Martian children. The rumor is that the movie was shot in abandoned aircraft hangars in New Jersey. It is clear that the movie had an extremely low budget, it even has spelling errors in the opening credits (custume designer).

The movie is currently ranked 80 in the list of worst movies ever made. A remake of this classic has been announced, but it will certainly never beat the original.

Some funny mess-ups to watch for during the movie:

6 mins – Why is the snow on that guy not melting?

13 mins – Septober? A goofy sort of hybrid month?

20 mins – Paper towel tubes used as part of a radar array (these guys were so broke).

34 mins – Oh no! It’s some guy dressed in a polar bear suit!

50 mins – They’re going to escape the airlock via a duct?

57 mins – If it weren’t for some big guy who laughs insanely, I’d run…

66 mins – Can’t these morons tell the difference between Santa and Dropo in a red suit?

We have decided to publish a weekly DVDrip chart here on TorrentFreak. The "BitTorrent DVDrip top 10" will replace the "BitTorrent movie download chart," and will be published on a weekly basis. The chart will only list DVDrips, no DVDscreeners and no Cams.

We decided to come up with our own chart because we received some positive reviews on the chart we published last week, but also because we’re not happy with the statistics provided by Infofiter and BigChampagne.

We do not link to actual torrent files for obvious reasons. The data is collected by TorrentFreak, and is for informational and educational reference only.
