Your right on the precedent part. Once they win a case like this they can cite it in court and then it becomes more difficult for anyone else to fight.

Its not that they can’t fight it, but it will likely go in their favor and they will have to appeal to a higher court. The appeal process and the threat of increased liability becomes pretty expensive. They use this as a means of discouraging anyone from fighting it any more and just settling for whatever they ask for.

The courts like the rest of the government has changed to represent the wealthy more than what they were supposed to or what we were told they were anyway.
