Coming Soon: Pirate TV Show
Written by Ernesto on June 29, 2008Jesse Alexander, the executive producer of the popular TV-shows ‘Heroes’ and ‘Lost’ and Matt Mason, author of ‘The Pirate’s Dilemma’, are working on a new TV-show about piracy. The show will be based on Matt’s book, and will show how important pirates are for today’s society.
Matt recently told us that he has been working on turning the book into a TV show with Jesse Alexander, the Executive Producer of the popular TV-shows Heroes and Lost. “It all happened a few months back when I was in LA talking to Disney, Matt told TorrentFreak, adding “We are trying to get this made into a 13-part TV show.”
The upcoming show aims to educate people about the history of piracy, and how it shapes our future. Pirates are innovators, they signal market problems and lead the way to new business models. Nevertheless, they are often tagged as thieves. In many cases, piracy is helping old businesses to innovate, and it helps to create new legitimate market spaces.
Here’s a teaser.
You can find Matt’s articles on TorrentFreak here. Also, his book “The Pirate’s Dilemma” is now available as a free download, if you don’t want to pirate a copy.

Finally, some real positive media for file sharing.
I remember seeing the video of the presentation he did to all the big companies, was fantastic, very well written and presented.
Will look out for the tv show!!
Fighting against file sharing is waste of time. Someone will always be smarter than mpaa.
I find it hard to believe that this will ever get to TV whilst presenting anything like a positive interpretation of internet piracy.
Surely, at best, it will not comment on what the uninformed consider to be the ‘moral’ aspects of it, and just focus on other areas instead, allowing joe bloggs to continue in his assumptions, imagining that they have been ratified by his watching of this new series.

Fighting against free information exchange (= file sharing) is a waste of time because its fighting against human nature.
Violently supressing free communication and information exchange between people because free information flow harms someones business is pure nazi censorship.
The best example is the last story of the portugese file sharer who got time just to “set an example”, i.e. “to teach the sheep a lesson”. So the copyright goverment fascists see us as sheep which they are allowed to violently “educate” to stop communicating openly. FUCK NAZI CENSORS. No way I’m gonna obey a nazi law and refuse to share a file with a fellow internet user just help maintain unnatural artificial scarcity to help someone elses business thrive. FUCK THEM.
wow half the info in that video sounds to amazing to be true.
Should be a kool program to watch!
sweet deal, some positive PR for the masses that just don’t understand the pirate culture! I am also pleasantly surprised it’s Jesse Alexander that’s helping him do this :D
Great trailer.
Sweet, I can hardly wait. Should make for good viewing!

If you can, i’d recommend buyin a copy of his book. Its an inspiring read. Its about time someone with bit of power made a film to dispel pirating myths and keep it entertaining.
I made a short film on a similar issues this year. Check it out here:

“We will produce this picture, but will not allow it to be pirated.” -MPAA
Can you see the irony? … and you know it will happen.
LOL, it will probaly suck! Pirates are the scum of the earth and should be k1lled.
#12 you must be confused with trolls, like yourself. :P
biggest problem is that governments are allowing themselves to be dictated to by private companies. the individual counts for nothing. the good that file sharing does counts for nothing. governments should remember that they are there for everyone, not just for those with the biggest wallets. this series will never be allowed to be broadcast, unless it is pirated, of course! hee hee
What channel is this coming on?
And how long until this guy, TPB, and the The League of Noble Peers get together to make a full-length movie to hit the theaters?
“I remember seeing the video of the presentation he did to all the big companies, was fantastic, very well written and presented.”
Can I get a link?
Everyone should get behind this production. Great work.
They should get a major studio to fund it. Make the whole movie, leak it on the net, then somehow back out at the last minute. Screwing over the movie studio while all the pirates get to watch and distribute it!
That accent is so awful. I don’t like to listen to a brit speaking like that for more than a few seconds, I hate the accent.
@18 you have got everything right except for “backing out” - you see, leaking it on the net is a good thing for them, and it does not screw over the movie studio at all - at least not if they get patronized in some way, and if their distribution method and method of creating the movie is cost-effective
wow looks great. finally some positive press
No way in hell this will hit network tv , Big Business will never let the truth be told to the masses
I hope this series gets made
I hope this gets on network T.V.
I hope someone uploads the series
BECAUSE I AM GOING TO DOWNLOAD IT AND SEED IT!!!
SO F.U.C.K. YOU MPAA,RIAA AND ANY OTHER A.A. THATS OUT THERE YOU H.O.M.O.`S CAN SUCK MY W.A.N.G.!!!!!
if you have to ask why piracy isn’t immoral, then you aren’t ready to know.
All this info here is totally true.Without piracy, this country, actually WORLD,would be so boring. It is human nature to share, and no matter what, it is gonna happen. They can fight it all they want but when you have a friend that asks you “hey can you burn me that dvd(or cd),what are you gonna say?”No bro its illegal”.Pfft good luck finding friends.
kill all pirates!
This is awesome. I want to be first.

I doubt this will fly with any TV network, but the teaser was very cool, and we can hope. =)
@24 or perhaps it is you who doesn’t already know. Piracy is a virtue, it is something useful as a means of spread things to everyone. Imagine if there was a device that could copy things. Then, if people would use it to copy food from a store, then nobody would be hungry. Similarly, piracy supplies culture to everyone, and spreads it at minimal cost.
Reword this : “Matt recently told us that he has been working on turning the book into a TV show with Jesse Alexander, the Executive Producer of the popular TV-shows Heroes and Lost.” I had no idea what ‘book’ you were talking about till like the last sentence.
So…
I guess Matt does not mind fact that I have not seen even single episode of LOST at TV…
I just download all of them…
Fuck FACT, You took down my fucking tv-links
You misconstrue to concept of pyracy in order to make it something exciting. To make it as if we are freedom fighters and heroes dedicated to a cause. Pyracy exists only as a means to improvise in situations where finances or resources or low. Pyracy is a last resort when one is desperate. There is no deeper truth behind it than that.
Do not make us heroes.
@32
Sorry you’re gay lol
god this looks really fucking lame
“”The Pirate’s Dilemma” is now available as a free download,”
Has anyone else noticed that the “free download” in the link provided requires you to pay $5.00 to download it? Am I wrong or is this just extreme irony?
“[...] you can set the price anywhere from $0.00 upwards.”
You’re wrong…

Il definitely seed that.
A Hollywood producer who wants to produce a pro-piracy tv series…
ROFL, I’ll believe that when I see it.
Does anyone else remember a time when MTV used to actually play music videos? They really did!

Executive producer of 2 of the most downloaded shows ever talking about piracy, i love it. I would gladly download and watch it if he can get the series made.
MCLOVIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fuck Labels and Fuck Tolerance
I do believe this will be hard to get on to network TV, so when it becomes available online, I will be sure to download it, cram as many episodes on to a single layer dvd as I can, buy a spindle of dvd’s, and go around letter boxing my neighborhood with disks. I’ll leave an email address on each disc so people who would like the rest of the series can request I burn the other episodes. :)
Nice, cheap, easy distributation. I live near a police station too, who may be interested in a copy as well! Loyal readers of TorrentFreak should be aware how much australian police love ‘piracy’. :)
It will never and cannot die.
i like this, i would like to hear what *you* (Matt mason and Jesse Alexander) thinks of piracy, because i think tv shows is the most pirated thing since PORN.
ill explain why i pirate your shows;
I live in norway.. i have to choice by either watching the show on norwegians channels up to 6 months later then the US. And i cant explain how much that sucks.. if it just aired in norway at the same time and date as in the US it would reduce the piracy by 90%.

ever think they know they cant win and its all coming apart and making everyone involved actually look like nazis and this might be there abeit slow return to sanity?
My grandfather fought in WW2 and north korea so we could have freedom of speech and trade ideas ind share , instead of the book burnings and nazi destruction of public domain. Lest the jews forget where they got there end freedom, and all that money form the hollywood and tv and MUSIC ( gene simmons )
YOU got that cash cause we had freedom, when you take away we get aggrivated as a society if the goal is to make mankind pissed off enough to fight your next war , great job you loons. Soon we’ll be so pent up we might just burn all the parliaments in anger, ugh the whole smeal makes me ill.
I’m leaving the net soon so i dun care what i say, its f’d.
I’d love to see this show out on Joost. (Sorry if this is DUP)
I totally agree with this.
One point I find is rarely, if ever, made, is the jobs that people, in particular software programmers, have BECAUSE of pirates.
Firewalls and anti-virus software wouldn’t exist without viruses and trojans and all the little nasty things.
Copyright-Software programmers wouldn’t have their jobs if it wasn’t for someone who wanted to download the movie. Piracy keeps these people in their jobs, because if everyone became good little capitalism-loving abiders of laws that the Americans favour (not to mention force them on other countries), a lot of people would be out of employment.
And that, in the scheme of things, would not be a good thing.
Some things aren’t even AVAILABLE to some countries. The television broadcast of shows such as Lost and Heroes is terrible in Australia. The times are always fluctuating and more-often-than-not, a show gets cancelled prematurely. Eastern / Asian programs are another subject. They’re not giving an option to people who want to watch the latest episode of Bleach or Code Geass, or the marvels of Russian film.
In my opinion, it’s the Robin Hood dilemma.
The actions portrayed as “evil” by those in power are not always evil.
And I think the flexibility and ingenious methods taken by pirates should be commended, rather than punished. When big business says “no” and closes the door, a pirate figures a way to open a window and climb in. Figuratively speaking.
In the words of Manowar - “They can’t stop us, let ‘em try.”
I can’t say that the piracy is something good, all i’m saying is that piracy can make things better. just think about what he said…
it’s strange, but it’s right. think about it…
I don’t like the work ‘pirate’ . I don’t attack ships.
Here’s why this show will reach TV:
The embracing of what piracy represents - a better way - will have to happen sooner or later, whether Big Content want it or not. Being the first to embrace it in such an obvious way might prove to be a huge boon for whomever dares to actually do it.
Here’s why it WON’T reach TV:
Big Content don’t want it.
teh video doesn’t work anymore, any mirrors?
As a major media pirate and sharer, I am glad to see that this is finally happening. It has always been annoying that what I do is illegal, and frowned upon by many. I will hopefully be able to show this to people who believe me to be a common criminal. Most of the works I acquire have been out of date for decades now, anyway, and are hard to find in good quality.
