If your VPN is worth anything, it doesn’t make it obvious you are using a VPN. I’ve never used one that didn’t have multiple servers all over the world, and especially a bunch in the U.S. People with good bandwidth often volunteer to also become part of an ad hoc VPN.

This really doesn’t make sense. If someone is using Netflix they’re trying to legally obtain the material, whether they do it anonymously or not. And since they have to have a Netflix account, it’s only their IP address that’s anonymous.

Well, VPN users can count on this being banned by Netflix. Regardless of Netflixes size they have always absolutely refused to use their influence to benefit their customers. If a big studio asks for totally unjustifiable things like holding new releases back or removing various content or the like, Netflix just does it. They established that pattern very early on. They shouldn’t even be paying the distribution companies any more than they got paid by video stores that bought rental copies of things, but Netflix just volunteers to do it rather than fight.

I hope no one expects Netflix to resist this even a little bit, because they won’t. And I hope the distribution companies aren’t surprised when this greatly increases piracy and hurts their bottom line, because it will.

I’d like to see how big of a legal battle this might bring. If the big dogs at Netflix have any sense they’ll tell this Bush to stuff it. If they ban all their VPN users their profit losses will be heavy. But knowing legal representatives, AHEDA will fight and throw a massive amount of legal jargon around to make Netflix comply.
