Modern capitalism is tightly bound up with the state – and there is a reason for this and the absence of mythically pure capitalism – *because it cannot exist*. The limits imposed on capitalist operations serve to reinforce the capitalist paradigm the rule of capitalists as a class. Why do we have a minimum wage, food stamps, food safety regulations, laws against dumping toxic waste in playgrounds? Because without these, and the capitalist state – capitalism as a system would collapse within weeks.

I’m not familiar with your reference to Switzerland.

I’m not suggesting any system in particular – other than to suggest humanity now faces a choice between capitalism and survival. This is not pure conjecture, there are data and gobs of analysis that point to a world 20 years hence or less in which basic resources can no longer support the worlds population (even assuming equitable distribution), and that this situation is being and will have been brought about by the paradoxies of capitalism. It seems to me that whatever humanity chooses to replace capitalism with, it will have to look a lot more like the communism or socialism proposed by many people (but not by people like Stalin). In other words, real equality must extend not only to the political, but to the economic sphere in addition.
