The takedown of top ED2K sites such as ShareReactor and ShareConnector served to greatly accelerate the migration from eDonkey/eMule toward Torrent sites — as it was the very existence of this large and resourceful ED2K filesharing community that hampered the adoption of the fledging (and file-starved) BitTorrent format in the early 2000s.

Because BitTorrent is much more effective than ED2K at mass-distributing new releases of movies and music, the copyright cartel ended up shooting themselves in the foot when they took down ED2K sites and in doing so drove millions of users into the waiting arms of BitTorrent.

Heh, there’s so much controversy on such cases and rulings are not quite logic (ie: different judges may present different rulings for the same cases). It is unfortunate that the legal systems don’t evolve with the same speed technology does.

The outcome of the criminal cases was predictable. He’ll win all in the end. MAFIAA has a very unique way of seeing each and every person that runs such sites as people connected with organized crime and stuff. They fail hard at noticing that although the organized crime does sell copies on the streets they obtained online, the operators of such services have absolutely no control over where the data come or from or go to.

A good argumentation can break the flawed MAFIAA accusations in these cases.
