The fines are kind of reasonable, but not really. Because when you buy a DVD, you are paying for higher quality, deleted scenes, a proper disk, commentaries and who knows what else. $15 each would have been a much more proper fine, though even that is extreme, because I can go to Entertainmart and pick up new releases for about 17, not 20.

I think two years is quite a bit of time, especially considering he has to pay them every cent they could have possibly made off of him.

It’s Interesting how any article that involves Legal Penalties in the United States always evokes the Haters of the World.. Yet the vast majority of the video bittorrent content that the world downloads is from United States Studios… Most of you outside the US have no idea how or why our legal system operates as it does.. You know nothing about the American concept of “State Law” as opposed to “Federal Law”…but that dosen’t stop you from bashing the US.. where would any of you be without Disney, Columbia, Universal, Paramount, Pixar, MGM, United Artists,Touchstone,Warner Brothers,Lionsgate,Dreamworks,all the independant studios…. Get my Point?… You think we are harsh? Have you seen the penalties handed down in Australia? China?

If you’re doing it for profit then that is correct use of copyright protection laws – the only people that should be making the profit is the creator of the works.

In this case he was commiting fraud by posing as the the rights holder.

However if no cash is exchanged there is not a guarentee of service and therefore no contract of sale.

this is stealing in it’s truest form, taking the sale away from the propererty holder and shoving in in his own pocket.

If you want to make money off of movies – try making one.

Why are they greedy if they want to make money off of what they create? It’s not being greedy, it’s just the right thing to occur.
