Working at a German ISP here who’s not part of this agreement (which, btw, is not in effect right now), I can say that this is not the reason.

We are NOT blocking nor filtering Demonoid at all, and I know that our upstream providers (who are not based in Germany) don’t; but still, no joy.

As somebody else said, Demonoid’s favicon IS reachable (when they’re not down for everybody), just not the rest of the site.

Looking at it from here, the Demonoid site admins have probably implemented geo-specific blocking on selected parts of their server(s) for reasons only known by them. Of course, were not available for comments when contacted.

Now, it’s their system, their choice. But locking out a sizable portion of the file sharing community is only harming Demonoid, as it deprives them of a lot of valuable seeders / uploaders.

if you have trouble downloading torrent file.. try downloading it a a text file (see the 2nd link above in download section) then it should load straight into utorrent 2/201 directly.. change to all files *.* when click add torrent
also some are adding the them to btjunkie dot org engine when its indexed there and shows in searches
as a backup to grabbing the .torrent files

also tracker is still red.. so enable DHT and peer so it find peers via those methods.. being public tracker its not banned those methods

And only part of Alberta was affected and even that is hardly “under a layer of ice with snow under it”. Here, I’ve been wearing shorts and a t-shirt all week and my air-conditioner is on. To paraphrase Alberta’s no-class former premier Ralph ‘Drunken Dumbass’ Klein when Ontario had a freak snow-storm 15 years ago “LET THE WESTERN BASTARDS FREEZE”.

I often wondered why are there so few .de people on Demonoid torrents – now I know.

Here in Canada, we were blocked as a whole country by Demonoid a few years ago. Demonoid was hosted in Canada for a few months and the even stupider and even more useless Canadian version of the RIAA got a court order forcing them to block Canadians (by geo-location). Using a proxy to access the website and d/l the .torrent files was all that was needed. The Demonoid trackers were not blocked (heh,heh), so everything else worked perfectly. So it was just a tiny bit of extra work.

And thanks for the tips, i know how to use a proxy…but its not the real solution. I just cant understand why somebody blocks a whole country (or a whole isp range).

I dont know what isp you use dixie, but for the majority its blocked in Germany (and nobody knows why).
