Demonoid Shut Down by the CRIA?
Written by Ernesto on September 25, 2007Demonoid.com, one of the most popular BitTorrent trackers has allegedly been taken offline by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA). Both the tracker and the website have been unresponsive for nearly 24 hours now.
As of now it is still unsure what exactly happened, but the popular Dutch news site nu.nl reports that the CRIA is responsible for the downtime.
TorrentFreak contacted some of the Demonoid administrators, but they are not sure what happened either. It is certainly possible that Demonoid’s Canadian ISP pulled the plug after being pressured by the CRIA. The ISP said before that they would take it down if they would receive complaints.
Right now, the Demonoid server is still pinging, but the ISP could have firewalled the everything after they received some serious legal threats. Deimos, the founder and the head admin of the site is unreachable and has not responded yet.
This is not the first time Demonoid suffers major downtime due to pressure from the anti-piracy lobby. Demonoid had to move its servers from The Netherlands to Canada in June after The Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN filed a subpoena against Demonoid’s ISP. BREIN had asked the ISP to take Demonoid offline and hand over the administrator’s personal details, but Demonoid relocated their servers before any harm was done.
Unfortunately, it now seems that Canada is not the “safe haven” as they expected it to be. It is likely that Demonoid has to relocate again, for the second time in three months.
Demonoid tracks over a million .torrent files and is the second largest BitTorrent tracker after The Pirate Bay. The shutdown of the site and tracker is a huge blow for the BitTorrent community that lost 2 of the most popular BitTorrent trackers (TorrentBox was taken offline for US users a few hours ago) within 24 hours.
More info soon!
Update: Still no response from Deimos, the CRIA or Demonoid’s ISP.
Update: The CRIA and Demonoid’s ISP refuse to comment to the allegations, they don’t confirm or deny anything.

Dumbasses trying to shut every one down I have faith in Demonoid though. Its not like the trackers uploading files. People upload torrents and people upload the files so stop FUCKIN with the websites Googles can just as easily find torrents.
One: This article is false and contains no confirmed information. Why did I waste my time reading this?
Two: There is only one official admin. Why do you report “head admin” and “administrators” when there is only one. My gosh this report sucks.

Simply stated, it is down time due to hardware issues (things wear out). Give them a while to get back up before you spread nasty big bad wolf rumors. Quit attributing more power to these guys than they have.
Hopefully, this is a wake up call for all Americans to VOTE, PICKET, and RECALL/IMPEACH some of these idiots out of office that are allowing this and other nonsense to continue.
my life is over.

My uploads & downloads from/to Demonoid thr Azeurus is still going on…I am looking forward to complete few more files and upload few files, before Demonoid kickstarts.
What I feel is ONLY the access is blocked to Demonoid through the ISP..the servers are probably still alive, facilitating P2P transfers..

If you enable “Allow incoming legacy connections” in uTorrent or a similar setting in other software you will still be able to seed and download to and from other pcs that you have made contact with … until the software on your machine or the other machine is closed.
Yes lets all wait & see.
Chill out People!!
LOOK AT THE MASSIVE RESPONSE TO THE ‘TEMPORARY’ SHUTDOWN OF DEMONOID!
Its almost like emotional setback setting after an unpleasent event in a family!
Demonoid is a wonderful site, enabling peer to peer communication/seed requests, and technical info exchange.. No other site can match the robust system ensuring the site discipline/content quality(Suitable for family members - homely contents)and individual torrent feed back from peer users, by which you can draw your own judgement to decide on choosing any torrent.Everything is highly informative; Any new-bee/learner of the computer will have heartful of info for educationg him/herself on any topic/s…It was a boon for personal development/self/help.. I MISS YOU DEMONOID>>>BE BACK SOON..
dudes, i just read a irc script from circuitbox. This guy who posted this shit article dosent know the real shit. All this is made up, as it has not been confirmed by neither Deimos or the admins. IF anything they said, that the site has been firewalled. But, will wait and see…….
Come on Demonoid is limited and controlled, Go take down some other big public P2P site, Leave Demonoid alone!

Agreed!
It can’t be hardware unless they have zero redundancy. They have several trackers and web servers which are all down.
[quote comment="173759"]GODDAMMIT!!

Whats this ?
>>In case this is true, they need to reconnect with different ISP/Country.
>>Their tracker is one of the most important trackers on the P2P world.
