Demonoid Shuts Down Again

Written by Ernesto on November 09, 2007

Demonoid.com, one of the most popular BitTorrent trackers, was forced to go offline again because the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) threatened their ISP.

demonoid

It’s been just over 6 weeks since the CRIA allegedly shut down the Demonoid BitTorrent tracker. Details were scarce at the time, with lots of people simply claiming the site had some technical or server issues. Indeed, TorrentFreak came in for quite some criticism when we claimed the CRIA was involved, but when the site returned there were some ominous signs which seemed to support our claims.

Eventually, the Demonoid trackers reappeared, followed by the site itself but was forced to block Canadian visitors by the CRIA. However, despite blocking Canadians, it seems the CRIA hasn’t yet had enough of harassing Demonoid and its host.

On Demonoid.com we now read:

“The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding.”

Indeed, Demonoid’s host had previously said that if it had any major hassle, it was likely it could pull the plug on the site.

A message on the Demonoid IRC channel says: “Site is down, tracker is up. Expect the site to return, unless we hear otherwise from Deimos.”

Canada seems to becoming more unfriendly for BitTorrent sites - Demonoid aren’t the only ones being threatened by the recording labels there.

It grates me.

We’re seeing multi million $ profit earning entities tearing our communities apart. As if they didn’t already own enough and earn enough from what was initially free!!!!

Fucking greedy cunts.

Those anti torrent types got rich from popularity/demand in the first place.

Don’t let ‘em into thinking that their cause is legit.

Fuck ‘em

Does anyone have an invite for Bitme. After Demonoid is down, I don’t have any resource for my audiobooks on Economics and Physics. I’m actually doing a research on Economics (macro-economics) and physics (modern).

Thanks for your help

I thing this is final

198 Nov 09, 2007 at 16:44 by Gossi

The tracker is dead, but people will still be able to connect to other peeps and seeds whilst they stay active. Plus, DHT will keep things active for a while.

The only way Demonoid will recover from this is if it moves country, basically.

raindance you must be crazy

I still say Fuck ‘em

Who do they think they are?

A new & powerful model emerges by the name of Bittorrent, it becomes popular, gargantuan, profitable & wide-spread.

What we’re seeing/experiencing isn’t law/democracy it’s a coup by big business to muscle and push themselves to centre stage.

The powers that ‘currently’ be have no inclination to rid the planet of bittorrnt, in fact, quite the opposite, as stated above.

Don’t be fooled into thinking you don’t make a difference, you always make a difference.
