Demonoid Tracker Moves to Ukraine
Written by Ernesto on March 16, 2008Demonoid, once one of the most popular BitTorrent trackers, has reappeared again, this time hosted in Ukraine. The website is still down but the trackers are now fully operational again, perhaps a sign that Demonoid is crawling back up to speed?
In June 2007 Demonoid was pressured to leave their host in the Netherlands, mainly because of legal threats from the Dutch anti-piracy outfit, BREIN. The site then relocated to Canada, but after threats from the CRIA, it decided to shut down there as well.
A month ago we reported on the brief resurrection of the Demonoid tracker in Malaysia. At the time we hinted at the possibility that the site could perhaps be planning a comeback. Unfortunately the tracker went offline again after a few days. With no official response from the Demonoid team, it remains a mystery what the reason behind the resurrection was.
Now, a month later, the Demonoid tracker is again responding. Just over a week ago, Demonoid torrents began to work again, this time being tracked from Ukraine.
The new host of inferno.demonoid.com is the Ukrainian ISP Cocall Ltd, while the frontend of the site still remains in the US. Again, there is no official explanation for the return of the tracker, although many hope that it’s a sign that the site will be fully up and running soon.
Last December, Demonoid’s founder Deimos spoke about the future of the site: “Money is an issue, but the real problem at the moment is finding a suitable place to host the website. There has been no luck there.” Perhaps he now found his safe harbor in Ukraine?

America rocks because we have a smart president.
Demonoid was one of the most organized torrent sites I’ve ever seen and thank you Ukraine for you lawlessness. (Notice I didn’t say “The” Ukraine??) We have enough people hateing America.
I hope they didn’t delete my demonoid account. It was a bitch trying to get an invite!
*Your Ukrainian lawlessness…
(Amended sentence…)
The Demonoid rulez,
The America suxx .
amen for the demon!

What is suxx? What do we suxx? What ever helps you get through your poor life in THE very poor country of The ukraine…
i hope demonoid will see light again. :)
Dereks, we DO have stupid copyright laws :) But fortunately nobody obeys them.
yes, technically everybody has them, even Ukraine)
But what I meant here is there our country doesn’t have any civilized, functioning law-enforcement system.
Especially on copyright subjects. We are still in tape-recorders era here.
Not only bittorrent trackers function freely here, but even pornographic-warez-mp3-downloading site can stay in national top20 most visited, without any legal claims.
im confused as hell why demonoid doesnt buddy up with pirate bay to find a solution
@16
You’re thinking of TPB, Demonoid’s torrents were reliable 99.999% of the time. Bothered by ads? Use ABP.

Since when is Ukraine prefixed with ‘the’ all the time…
Since every country is usually considered ultimate to their own name. “The” is used to say that the noun is authoritative (or owner) of it’s name. For example, if you were the only Nick , we would refer to you as the Nick. But since you are not we refer to you as the Asshole.
1) Avoid giving grammar lessons when you confuse “its” and “it’s” (end of your second sentence). It’s ridiculous.
2) Avoid making up the lessons yourself. It’s downright pathetic.
#39 you suck not only did i create America i created you and everyone else i even created the world with half a roundhouse

(sorry Nick)

dumb americans tbh
Thus sayeth Wikipedia: “Before the country’s independence in 1991, the country was often referred to as “The Ukraine.” The term ‘Ukraine’ rather than ‘The Ukraine’ is now predominant in diplomacy and journalism.”
And you say Americans are stupid?
Its a good think to know that the site is coming back…. but it’ll be a better thing if you would let people find out on them selfs about the sites come back. posting this on digg is posting it all over the world where the LAW will track us down really easy.. thanks for telling eveybody where the trackers will be hosted and where their frontend is hosted at. This are things that you should not be posting.
Just say that the site is coming back.
thanks for the news but i think you just screwed things up Ernesto.
Yay!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes!
1. Not cocall, but Colocall!!!!
2. The Ukraine was grammatically appropriate, when the country was part of the USSR. Now it just Ukraine, without THE.
3. Finally, they made a right decision! I’ve been telling they should do so since previous spring.
4. We have no copyright law at all))))))
I don’t know about that, Deimos, I mean are you saying that the media companies wouldn’t have otherwise become aware of demonoid coming back online? I don’t know but I would have thought that they’d become well aware of this without having to read the news.
The only people that care about this, are those who refused to accept it’s demise and move on.
Welcome to the next SuprNova… more hype than substance.
That is cool! I downloaded some torrents from demonoid and i was satisfied with their service. Hope it comes back…
