Demonoid Trackers Back Online, Site Still Down
Written by Ernesto on September 29, 2007Demonoid.com mysteriously disappeared earlier this week, but there is hope. The website is still down but the trackers are now fully operational again, perhaps a sign that Demonoid is crawling back up?
The demonoid downtime caused quite some controversy, especially after the popular Dutch news site nu.nl reported that the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) was responsible for the downtime.
We contacted both the CRIA and Demonoid’s ISP in an attempt to confirm the story, but they didn’t want to respond to these allegations. Both parties confirmed nor denied their involvement. In addition, we tried to get an official response from Deimos, the founder and the head admin of Demonoid, unfortunately without any result.
The general consensus in the Demonoid IRC channel now is that the downtime is caused by hardware issues, and that the site will probably return within a few days.
Others still think that the Canadian ISP took Demonoid offline after they received legal threats (from the CRIA), but this is just speculation at this point. Demonoid’s ISP said earlier that it would not hesitate to pull the plug on Demonoid if they had to, however, this explanation is less plausible now because the trackers still run on the same IP. This indicates that the servers are still hosted by their Canadian ISP.
It is great to see that the second largest BitTorrent tracker is back in action. Thousands of torrents stopped responding when the tracker went down, frustrating over a million BitTorrent users. I guess it’s time to finish these torrents.

yeah he reported on it but look at the effect it had? it had to much negative impact to fuel the fire. im not sure who to blame demonoid for not saying jack shit about what happened or torrent freak giving into the rumors. i dont trust any of thoes sites, theres a reason they still exist a evil reason. i use to like demonoid, but after they kept quiet about things i don’t think ill be visiting them anytime in the future. heres a tip pay only attention to LAWSUIT news its the ONLY THING u got to worry about. anything else sites like these tell u,ignore them. only thing that matters is that u keep getting free shit for nothing and not pay any consuqenes for it. and the only way u will is a lawsuit.

Ernesto is just a normal person. I can imagine how hard it was to get data after it went down. Believe me I spent 4 hours scrounging the internet for every piece of info on them being down i could find. Even if he was a little off, doesn’t mean he didn’t try. Honestly if it wasn’t for ernesto and this really none of us would have known what happened. I noticed the trackers started yesterday and was going to post a comment here but he already got too it.
The peolpe who criticized him are dumbasses. He did the best he can. Atleast he, for one, is trying to bring us SOMETHING on what happened. They posted that news thing on that site which was ALL he had to go over.
On another note I am really happy that the trackers are back up and running, I can’t wait till the site comes back.

I don’t think that Ernesto did realy anything wrong. He read something, tried to get it confirmed, and reported accordingly in good faith. The original article explained fully what he read, and when he tried to confirm the information, he was met with a lot of “no comments” which sounded suspicious in themselves.
What he read and repeated was ultimately incorrect. It happens. Not everyone can be 100% correct all of the time. If Ernesto was repeatedly reporting incorrect rumors, then that would be a legitimate complaint. This is the first time that this has happened as far as I know.
I think all of the professional complainers should try to start their own blog about the latest torrent news and see how it goes for them.
If people are so upset about the initial report, then they should just leave and not come back. I choose not to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Doesn’t matter how many sites, it’s a domino effect, you may not care about 1, but when 5 are down? Or 10? It won’t end. The only way to stop it from happening is to keep them all up. Fuck Brein!

If you have already created links/started downloading 3days ago, those seeders and peers will be sharing the files with you; you cannot download anything new till demonoid comes up.. the already connected seeders and peers for the downloaded/uploaded material will continue to exist/functional.

Funny, my torrent that I had uploaded to demonoid was working fine even when the tracker was down. I was still connected to a handful of leechers. Glad to see demonoid is taking a step in the right direction though. Can’t wait for the actual site to be back up.

I agree with you Husky. I am also an addict of Demonoid, ’cause, it is the best ‘family’ torrent site. In the sense, it helps my children get their study material, there are no porno craps in it, and no virus. Moreover, it is a finest society of good people, who are willing to share the info and help.The manangement of the site by Demonoid is excellent.

Ruzster is a global mod on demonoid. He has a backup forum for when the demonoid forums go down. Guess what? The demonoid forums are down, so everyone is on the backup forums, Ruzsteroid. That includes mods.

If IP addresses are available, the authorities can send letters to your ISP demanding your personal information from them, collect them as an evidence, and try to prove you have uploaded/distributed illegal copies of the material, and try to pin you down. Anyways, they cannot pull up lakhs of people. They maight do it with few hundreds at random to create scare amongst the public/torrent society.

Deimos has his own life to live as well as Demonoid - so he will post information as and when he sees fit. I do believe that’s HIS right and prerogative.
In regards to the paper issue .. same thing as above. This isn’t the first time we haven’t issued a “statement” - and people are still using our site. Millions every single day, to be precise. When the site went down and people’s torrents continued to download. I turned off one of my torrents intending to restart later. When I swicthed it back on the tracker did not work for two days as was the case for everyone. The tracker’s are back up now and I was able to recomense my download without problems. This indicates that something somewhere along the line has been fixed/put right and bodes well for the future return of the site. There is no secert inteligence agency going to be demanding your data from your internet service provider that idea is a little too far-fetched with what we know of the law.
