Demonoid Trackers Back Online, Site Still Down
Written by Ernesto on September 29, 2007Demonoid.com mysteriously disappeared earlier this week, but there is hope. The website is still down but the trackers are now fully operational again, perhaps a sign that Demonoid is crawling back up?
The demonoid downtime caused quite some controversy, especially after the popular Dutch news site nu.nl reported that the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) was responsible for the downtime.
We contacted both the CRIA and Demonoid’s ISP in an attempt to confirm the story, but they didn’t want to respond to these allegations. Both parties confirmed nor denied their involvement. In addition, we tried to get an official response from Deimos, the founder and the head admin of Demonoid, unfortunately without any result.
The general consensus in the Demonoid IRC channel now is that the downtime is caused by hardware issues, and that the site will probably return within a few days.
Others still think that the Canadian ISP took Demonoid offline after they received legal threats (from the CRIA), but this is just speculation at this point. Demonoid’s ISP said earlier that it would not hesitate to pull the plug on Demonoid if they had to, however, this explanation is less plausible now because the trackers still run on the same IP. This indicates that the servers are still hosted by their Canadian ISP.
It is great to see that the second largest BitTorrent tracker is back in action. Thousands of torrents stopped responding when the tracker went down, frustrating over a million BitTorrent users. I guess it’s time to finish these torrents.

You are all fucking morons that whine like rape victims about demonoid going down and you come here for the info you get pissed when it turns out to be something different… Demonoid isn’t the only torrent site around you know, but the way most of you are crying about it you would think it is… get over it already… fucking children…
Everyone has a reason why demonoid went offline. still the same it is down. We all need to pull for the site . Lets keep the arguing and acusations in the trash. I am sure demonoid will come back to us and post the truth on the front page. All please have a good day and salute our fellow pirates Arr.
One more item at hand, The trackers are now back?? I would not trust those trackers at this pointe (I smell a Rat) it’s just a little to weird!!

I don’t think that Ernesto did realy anything wrong. He read something, tried to get it confirmed, and reported accordingly in good faith. The original article explained fully what he read, and when he tried to confirm the information, he was met with a lot of “no comments” which sounded suspicious in themselves.
What he read and repeated was ultimately incorrect. It happens. Not everyone can be 100% correct all of the time. If Ernesto was repeatedly reporting incorrect rumors, then that would be a legitimate complaint. This is the first time that this has happened as far as I know.
I think all of the professional complainers should try to start their own blog about the latest torrent news and see how it goes for them.
If people are so upset about the initial report, then they should just leave and not come back. I choose not to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Doesn’t matter how many sites, it’s a domino effect, you may not care about 1, but when 5 are down? Or 10? It won’t end. The only way to stop it from happening is to keep them all up. Fuck Brein!
Unbelievable, when you don’t like TF… don’t come here, its a grey business, everyone knows it. You, me, the Swedish government, tpb, RIAA, etc.
And if a most times reliable news source (www.nu.nl) gives out an article, then who is to blame for a mistake made?
I still have trust in this site and http://www.nu.nl. The only thing is that people shouldn’t take posted rumors as the truth. Their are more news sources in the world that have the same issue, ever heard of a rectification in a newspaper?

My Computer has been running 24×7, and all the downloads have been normal as usual, with quite a number of seeders and peers. In fact the speed was so normal,(download in progess at 98% finished in several cases - started from zero 2 days ago !)I had pointed this out in your forum on 9/26.. What’s so big deal about it?

Its a game of strength, where money,politics,and intelligence are all involved! The laws for cyber space are stilla subject matter of debate, and not evolved fully. What is being opposed or experimented by the government agencies/law enforcing authorities lacks understanding and public acceptance in full measure.Its time before a level of maturity is attained in this new cyber era - a transition period for the copyright laws.. Lets wait & watch this transition process…

’cause, probably, there is no organized cyber newspaper purely about the cyber news (Or is there any?).. Isn’t it a good venture to start a cyber (electronic) newspaper, which could be more authentic than these fly-by-night stories? Venture capitalists, please contact me!
