Demonoid Trackers Back Online, Site Still Down
Written by Ernesto on September 29, 2007Demonoid.com mysteriously disappeared earlier this week, but there is hope. The website is still down but the trackers are now fully operational again, perhaps a sign that Demonoid is crawling back up?
The demonoid downtime caused quite some controversy, especially after the popular Dutch news site nu.nl reported that the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) was responsible for the downtime.
We contacted both the CRIA and Demonoid’s ISP in an attempt to confirm the story, but they didn’t want to respond to these allegations. Both parties confirmed nor denied their involvement. In addition, we tried to get an official response from Deimos, the founder and the head admin of Demonoid, unfortunately without any result.
The general consensus in the Demonoid IRC channel now is that the downtime is caused by hardware issues, and that the site will probably return within a few days.
Others still think that the Canadian ISP took Demonoid offline after they received legal threats (from the CRIA), but this is just speculation at this point. Demonoid’s ISP said earlier that it would not hesitate to pull the plug on Demonoid if they had to, however, this explanation is less plausible now because the trackers still run on the same IP. This indicates that the servers are still hosted by their Canadian ISP.
It is great to see that the second largest BitTorrent tracker is back in action. Thousands of torrents stopped responding when the tracker went down, frustrating over a million BitTorrent users. I guess it’s time to finish these torrents.

It is just better to be cautious individuals.. till everything cools down and some clarity emerges..Are we not responsible simple individuals, shouldering our families? Torrents or Demonoid is not the end of our life Is n’t it? Let’s go outing, leaving behind the torrent stuff for sometime, for a change?!
Man i have a familly,actually i have a WIFE…im happy the way i am and always have been…its not the end of the world if demonoid is shutin’ down for good(which i strongly think it wont)but i hate peapole who craps on other peapoles work makin’ a mockery and i reallt think that its a little absurd that tomorrow ill just end up in an canadian jail or shit like that…so lets just stop scarin’ peapole with wild goose hunts…oki?!!!!!
Funny, my torrent that I had uploaded to demonoid was working fine even when the tracker was down. I was still connected to a handful of leechers. Glad to see demonoid is taking a step in the right direction though. Can’t wait for the actual site to be back up.

In my country trackers are SPONSORED by high profile firms…so what the fuck is wrong with this canadian law enforcement shit?!!!! Peapole qho cant afford buyin’ thouusands of albums or hundreds of books just download them…so logical…law is a thing of richness over modest…its so fuckin’ ironnical!
I agree with you Husky. I am also an addict of Demonoid, ’cause, it is the best ‘family’ torrent site. In the sense, it helps my children get their study material, there are no porno craps in it, and no virus. Moreover, it is a finest society of good people, who are willing to share the info and help.The manangement of the site by Demonoid is excellent.
Let’s not worry abt what might happen.

Ruzster is a global mod on demonoid. He has a backup forum for when the demonoid forums go down. Guess what? The demonoid forums are down, so everyone is on the backup forums, Ruzsteroid. That includes mods.

trackers working, but really it didn’t make too much difference to me. my downloads slowed down a little, but things are fine now. oh well, i hope the site’s back online soon. can’t understand what all the angst is about though. shit happens, i guess………

Yes Iknow already.Now there was a talk that Demonoid might move into Russia. CRIA,Canadian Government, or whoever it is, if any one is in control of Demonoid, the next step would be for them to collect statistics of numbers, backed by IP addresses, to strengthen their argument.
