Demonoid Trackers Back Online, Site Still Down
Written by Ernesto on September 29, 2007Demonoid.com mysteriously disappeared earlier this week, but there is hope. The website is still down but the trackers are now fully operational again, perhaps a sign that Demonoid is crawling back up?
The demonoid downtime caused quite some controversy, especially after the popular Dutch news site nu.nl reported that the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) was responsible for the downtime.
We contacted both the CRIA and Demonoid’s ISP in an attempt to confirm the story, but they didn’t want to respond to these allegations. Both parties confirmed nor denied their involvement. In addition, we tried to get an official response from Deimos, the founder and the head admin of Demonoid, unfortunately without any result.
The general consensus in the Demonoid IRC channel now is that the downtime is caused by hardware issues, and that the site will probably return within a few days.
Others still think that the Canadian ISP took Demonoid offline after they received legal threats (from the CRIA), but this is just speculation at this point. Demonoid’s ISP said earlier that it would not hesitate to pull the plug on Demonoid if they had to, however, this explanation is less plausible now because the trackers still run on the same IP. This indicates that the servers are still hosted by their Canadian ISP.
It is great to see that the second largest BitTorrent tracker is back in action. Thousands of torrents stopped responding when the tracker went down, frustrating over a million BitTorrent users. I guess it’s time to finish these torrents.

NO, I’m operating under the knowledge that you all want the notoriety that being a part of Demonoid gives you.
I personally (see that?… OPINION :O :O) feel that Deimos should have said something already on this matter… and that his silence is conspicuous at the very least!
I don’t DEMAND anything from you.. but I don’t DEMAND anything from my local paper either… I just know that should my local paper stop keeping it’s readers informed that it will no longer be of sufficiant notice.

See, now you’re at least talking like a civilised adult .. rather than a pouting, ranting, child. Why couldn’t you have done that in the first place?
Gone is the proclamations of us being controlled by CRIA and “harvesting IPs” instead you’re now just saying that this is all your “opinion” So why couldn’t you have just been civil in the beginning? You get a lot better results when you’re polite and ASK, rather than screaming and demanding.
To answer your statement; This isn’t the first time we’ve gone down due to hardware failure (YOU try running a server that tracks over 3million peers) and it most likely won’t be the last. We didn’t issue any statements last time either, we did that when we came back up. So why should it be different now? It shouldn’t. Deimos has his own life to live as well as Demonoid - so he will post information as and when he sees fit. I do believe that’s HIS right and prerogative.
In regards to the paper issue .. same thing as above. This isn’t the first time we haven’t issued a “statement” - and people are still using our site. Millions every single day, to be precise. Sure, it’s annoying to not be able to access the site (I myself miss Demonoid’s collection) but I also know that it won’t be long before we’re back again ;)

Oh for the love of God. You’re basing your arguments on IRC?! You goddamn numbskull. IRC is not Demonoid and Demonoid is not IRC. The OPERATORS are not MODERATORS, your bloody halfwit. #Demonoid is run by different people to the mods on-site - with the exception of Death5Hand and Onijin, who frequent IRC often. You weren’t kicked for asking questions, you were most likely kicked for being a mouthy little troll .. as exampled by your posts on here.
As for what I, and the other site-staff known, that is for US and not you. Everything that happens behind the scenes on Demonoid isn’t for the public, it’s for US. As I said, sign up on Ruzsteroid and watch for announcements.
So, to reiterate for those following this debacle;
“Youbinwarned” was never banned from the SITE or the FORUM. He was kicked, and yes - most likely banned too, from the UNOFFICIAL IRC channel.
Stop spreading rumours and doubt - just wait patiently. Or don’t. It’s your choice, but the more you post your nonsense here, the more you’re looking like a laughing stock ;)
