The Pirate Bay: Demonoid is Welcome in Sweden
Written by Ernesto on January 16, 2008After two months of downtime, it is still uncertain whether Demonoid will ever return. However, if it is up to The Pirate Bay, it will. The Pirate Bay has recently offered 2 servers to the Demonoid team, in Sweden of course.
Will Demonoid ever return? That was the question we asked last December. There was some hope for the thousands of Demonoid users when Deimos, the founder of the site, said that he was looking for a new location to host the popular BitTorrent tracker. He said: “Money is an issue, but the real problem at the moment is finding a suitable place to host the website. There has been no luck there. And there’s some personal stuff I need to take care of that takes most of my time at the moment, and that does not help.”
It now seems that there’s some good news for Deimos as The Pirate Bay is offering their help. In fact, they claim to have two servers lined up for Demonoid already. Pirate Bay’s Brokep made this public in a recent interview on the Subdemon techcast where he said: “We tried to contact the guys behind Demonoid and we’ve set up a tracker for them but they haven’t responded. But, we have two servers running for them if they want to set it up.” Brokep also says that he hasn’t heard back from Deimos yet, but it sure is a great gesture.
If Demonoid decides to take them up on their offer they will not be alone. In 2007 quite a lot of torrent sites moved to Sweden, and to PRQ in particular. Sweden is considered to be a safe haven for BitTorrent sites, and PRQ is popular because it is owned by TiAMO and Anakata, two of the founders of The Pirate Bay. Ironically, however, The Pirate Bay is not hosted in Sweden or at PRQ, which is probably a wise decision.
In the remainder of the interview Brokep and the interviewers discuss some of the recent news surrounding The Pirate Bay, such as the huge pile of paperwork they received last month, the new protocol they have been developing, and the explosive growth of their tracker. It is definitely worth listening to, and I’m looking forward to the next episodes of this podcast, and to more news surrounding Demonoid.

I regret to inform you, but Deimos died two weeks ago from prostate cancer. I only found out today, when I tried to contact him in Brazil, about a business matter. His wife and son are totally devastated.
I do hope that Demonoid will come back, although I don’t think it will come back anytime soon.

TPB is in Sweeden, the only reason Sweeden is safe is because they basically agree with everything TPB and Demon stand for and now that MOVIE MAKERS are behind us showing that the studios aren’t showing the true colors this could be an interesting week.

All of mp3 were making profit (they sold albums very cheaply) and kept the money for themselves.
It also hosted all the files itself.
Non-profit bittorent sites are completely different you melon.
I just don’t get why being a pirate is “illegal”. Pfft, god damn politicians had shitty childhoods if they never had a dream of being a pirate.
Any people worried out there keep in mind that the lawsuits so far in ratio to the amount of people who actually download is the same rate of likely hood of being hit by a meteor.
I really hope deo returns bcozits the best tracker avaliable along with tpb and they host some quality torrent.!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody seems to care about the fact that you could find almost any file on demonoid. I just the other day found a torrent on mininova that was using the tracker from demonoid. Sure the tracker didnt work but I still downloaded it just fine. Demonoid still lives as a distant shadow. One day I hope the great and powerful Demonoid rises from the mists. HIP HIP HOORAH!

The subdemon.com website hosted out of Dallas, Texas is a total ripoff.
All they do is stuff the site full of banner ads and then make money off of people moaning about demonoid.
Many people there actually expect to see demonoid come back and any comments to the contrary brings the poster automatic muting and banning.
I have yet to see any posts from Deimos that actually state that demonoid will come back - it is very likely the whole userbase has been hijacked and is just being used to get page views for the banner ads.
What a horrible ending to what was at one time an excellent service.

Demos - do what you want. But you really helped the community and I found a lot of useful stuff and info on your site.
