Sounds stupid? Yes.
Would you be embarassed if you got a letter like that? Yes.
Is it right to harass people who have done nothing wrong? No.

They use intimidation to try and make you pay up their small fee. Its a bit like the extortion racket that is private parking companies.

So like you say it is toilet paper.

When Civil Court proceedings begin, and this person has been served with a claim, there is a period of 28 day in which to file a defence with the Chancery Division. This is set by the HIgh Court, and not a company or individual, extensions can be granted and the Court must be informed of this in writing from both sides. Where a defence is not
filed the Claimant has the right to seek automatic judgement against the defendant, which is what is pointed out in the quote above.

If GEIL have no intention of going to ‘court’ as you say, then why are they bothering to send out letters? I would have thought, that if
they (GEIL) have not filed a claim with the Court already, and they don’t intend to then I would assume that such letters simply need to be recycled into toilet paper.
