I have to admit that there are very strong points in the FAQ of DistriBrute (and I don’t work for them).

Since each updated system is then able to update to others, you have exponential update speed, rather than the linear of olden-days. Time becomes logarithmic, and any beginning CS student can tell you that logarithmic time is leagues better than linear for large datasets. (Large numbers of computers, in this case)

So, its a nice solution you built here, but by no means its a technological breakthrough.

Yeah, I just had my Insight account disabled a week or so ago. I just had to call them and get it turned back on. The tech told me that all I would have to do is turn off seeding and I wouldn’t have any more problems.

You definitely have no clue about the negative parts of muticast solutions.

If you check the FAQ at http://www.4m88.nl you’ll see what kind of shit a multicast solution can bring!

Its called multicast, look it up.

1. It’s a commercial software. That means it’s a guaranteed solution, which small & medium enterprises can rely on w/o worrying about the reliability and security of the software.

2. Because it’s a commercial software, Bittorrent technology has become “mainstream” with the business people. Right now, even with the “publicity” surounding Bittorrent, it’s only adopted by companies running games servers (think WoW) and educational institutes. With the availability of a Bittorrent-inspired solution, the protocol can at last be seen as a better alternative.

@11: Bittorrent started off as a tool and the driving force behind the free/open source movement. Even the movement itself has become an accepted fact of life for SMEs. What BT needs is stability and advertising to SMEs as a better solution. Low overhead costs + fast deployment, and other selling points: those are the ones that the makers of DistriBute have to do.

Overall, a positive light on Bittorrent.

Note: I’m not biased against the use BT for your *ahem* personal needs, but I’m being practical about wanting to let Bittorrent — as a tool, not the lifestyle — becomes a company’s main tools of trade.

Insight disabled my connection due to Copyright Infringement, so far it has just been a slap on the wrist. They claim that they were alerted by Paramount that the movies were on the network so I assume that Insight tracked it to me. I believe this is due to the passage of the PRO-IP act. Such a bummer.

TF need to remained focused not only on the protocol itself, but also on the free software model it employs and the community driven nature of its widest application. The people who read these articles are mainly the public who fileshare, so represent their interests and don’t lose sight of the critical fact about BT that its free and open source software!

its nothing new. but look, man. there are some giantic music industries companies that just dont get it. they have all they could have to lead world in inovative distribution and everything. but instead, they chose to pay MD and similar companies to attacks free sharing sites like tpb. so ye, this is nothing new to us who follow the technology and stuff but for those old people running the show in music industry, this is something that they just cant understand. so there is a hope that some of those rich dudes will read this article and free their brain from old outdated way of thinking. i hope there is a hope they will get it. get it?

Not dissing the article, its very well written but am curious as to the company behind this software.
