Hopefully VPNs and seedbox providers are excluded from this, like in other countries.

When can these idiots be “educated” on the pristine quality available from pirate sites versus the over-compressed with terrible audio + DRM crap they put out?

When the pirates can offer a better product, you have already lost, and that’s even before you start talking about timeliness, availability on devices and cost.

As a Dutch i can easilly point out the reason of why. it is very difficult to get to view anything without either a very expensive digital tv plan or special subscriptions per non-local channel. to use a “legal” way without extortion payment would entail waiting 2-4 years to HOPEFULLY be able to purchase a overpriced dvd-collection.

Another issue is a clear oligopoly that is rampant here. All main tv providers have most rights to various shows. Rather then invest in new seasons or shows they keep re-airing cheap old episodes to save money. often without any form of order. (you would not believe how often i saw the same episode of something per month…). Services that try to enter the country either get heavilly restricted or are forced to be expensive.

much like any copyright problem the problem is not that people don’t see that its wrong and should be “informed” through lawsuits.. The problem is that people rather do something that is wrong then have to deal with the ever stagnant media.

That is the real question they should be asking. How bad are they if they are driving people to commit a crime??

Oh iand if its specificlly for dutch movies. our movies suck and aren’t worth their price and the foreign movies often take nearly a month before it appears in the shop. We also have no legal alternative for watching a movie on demand.

I live in the Netherlands, and the main reason why people download is simple. You can’t get the content what you want, when you want it. Breaking Bad was shown in 2008 in America, it launched mid 2010 here on DVD (no Blu-Ray), and season 1 started in 2012 on TV. And no, there were no other ways to see it legally in 2008 here. We just got Netflix last year, without the great movies that the US version of Netflix has.
