I have. Apparently you haven’t. Then again, you claim to be a professional translator (one who doesn’t only do subtitle projects, come to that) who thinks his translations are his own property. You do know what “professional translator” means, don’t you? It means someone pays you to translate something for them. Are you seriously suggesting that you take the job, get the money and then distribute your translations around (for free or not, that’s irrelevant) as it pleases you? A sub translator you might be, even a good one at that, but a professional translator you’re most definitely not.

But vdvd… legally, it doesn’t matter whether an “infringement” was done for profit or not! The punishment is the same! Especially since they can just make up claims of damages (“lost sales”, “damage to business model”, etc.). Let’s say your subtitles were downloaded 500 times – they can just say that it equated to 500 lost DVD sales. At $20 per DVD, congratulations, you now owe some big corporation $10,000 for sacrificing your time to subtitle a film you like.
