FBI Monitored Dotcom Raid Via Live Video Link, Secret Govt Group Involved

This week’s hearing into the January raid against Kim Dotcom’s New Zealand mansion has turned up interesting new evidence today. Under questioning from a defense lawyer, a senior police officer has admitted that top New Zealand officers and members of the FBI watched the raid live via video link. Only adding to the intrigue is the revelation that a secret government unit were present at the pre-raid meeting.

This week Kim Dotcom, police and other officials have been giving evidence in the Auckland High Court as part of a hearing to determine what happened during the January raid on his New Zealand mansion.

By now the backdrop to the story is well-known, particularly after a video recorded during the raid was published online this week.

It largely confirmed what has been reported thus far – armed anti-terrorist officers, helicopters and significant force were all used in the pursuit of individuals alleged to have been involved in copyright infringement in the United States.

It is known that U.S. authorities had “boots on the ground” in New Zealand in pursuit of Dotcom and his associates and today that assertion was further underlined.

Under questioning from defense lawyer Guyon Foley, Detective Inspector Grant Wormald of the NZ Organized and Financial Crime Agency had to reveal how senior police officers and the FBI had received their information as the raid panned out.

“What information was coming back to your headquarters group in relation to what was happening as to progress of the raid?” Mr Foley asked.

“We received phone calls from the scene in respect to the fact that at least three of the defendants apart from Mr Dotcom have been located,” Mr Wormald said, initially stumbling over his words.

“Radio contact with officers on the ground?” Foley questioned.

Wormald said that due to the raid being carried out by the Special Tactics Group they did not have direct radio contact since STG, New Zealand’s anti-terror force, use only encrypted communications.

“Any video feed from anywhere?” Foley pushed. After another pause, Wormald said that there had indeed been live video.

“We had a video feeding back to the police station,” Wormald said.

“Really?” Foley added with a surprised tone. “From where?”

“I’m not going to discuss that,” Wormald responded.

What happened next was hidden from the media but the intrigue didn’t stop there. Detective Inspector Wormald also admitted that a secret government organization had been involved in the raid on the Dotcom mansion.

Paul Davison, QC, acting on behalf of the defense, asked Wormald if the group of people at the pre-raid meeting belonged to the Security Intelligence Service. He denied that, but refused to say exactly who they were.

“They work for the government,” he said.

On Twitter, Kim Dotcom said people should expect some big news in the coming weeks.

“The truth is coming out!” he said. “And we are just getting started.”

A secret government? Well, when they will be revealed (i hope they will be) it will not be secret anymore. We will know who the real criminals are.

So NZ’s version of the CIA was involved. Go figure.

US needs to abolish the two-party rule. Americans need to protest, riot and demand the ability to have genuine leaders in office, not the corrupt Democrats and Republicans.

      Let’s start a revolution. Let’s protest!

      • Nope

Not possible.  There is no stipulation that there can only be two political parties, this is just the minimal amount that you can waffle back and forth on to shift blame.  The only way to win an election is to have a large voter-base, and most of the voters are nimrods who watch news from Murdoch-owned studios.  Unless you first found and make famous a reliable, *widely accessed*, news distributor, you can bet the multimedia omnilords won’t allow you to show up in any positive light until after the puppet has been elected in and is signing rehashes of their latest bills.

        • Guest

The problem is our winner take all system.  If Ross Perot can get %20 of the vote, but no votes in the electoral college system, that’s a system that didn’t represent %20 of the people.  It makes a third party non viable from word go, because people assume, rightly, that if they vote for someone other than a D or an R, they’ll waste their vote, and someone they agree with less might get elected.  Exactly that happened in 2000, when, had the votes for Nader gone to Gore, as seems likely had Nader not been running, Gore would have won.

        • Guest

Nader supporters voting for Gore wouldn’t have changed a damn thing, after all, he had more votes than Bush as it was. Him being elected President just wasn’t part of the script.

Don’t riot. That’s how they make you look like a dick.

Gandhi achieved plenty without resorting to throwing a brick thru any nearby windows. Also, yes, 2 party systems suck but look at the UK right now, we have 3 parties and they’re all so close when it comes to big business that it’s hard to work out who to despise the most.

If America has a 3rd major party that makes a difference, it will need to be a worker orientated party such as the original Labour Party was in the UK. However in the US it would be branded communist before it got off the ground and reviled by many.

What America really needs to abolish is the idea that parties raise their own campaign funds and instead have it be paid for by the govt. New rules on lobbying would be good, an alteration in how legislation is passed would help also.

Simply sticking a third party in doesn’t change the fact that the great American Democracy isn’t very democratic and certainly isn’t great. I love the States, but right from the off the country has lied to itself about what it is and the population over there buy most of the lies amid self-celebration and flag waving hysteria.
The truth is the US runs a system which breeds corruption and self interest, like most western democracies.

It has people under its rule who cannot vote despite being upstanding citizens, it has a history of forgetting about habeas corpus whenever it’s convenient. Then there’s Americas wars, surveillance legislation, tax law, health & education policies, McCarthyism, Native tribes, business practices, south/central American relations or the race issue.

A third party will end up looking like the first two unless the fundamental structure of American politics shifts dramatically. It’s similar in the UK.

        This world sucks sometimes.

          Very well said.

        • Neil

You got it right – the issue in most western countries is the funding and openess of funding to show the general population who pays for what benefits of lobbying. Some countries have this available – not easily for those un-connected – it should be paid for by the taxpayer in all local newspaper publications.

      • Neil

Sorry Buddy – we don’t have one. The
group talked about is special tactical group from the USA that is domiciled here allegedly to train our own Special Tactics Group guys. They’re being paid by our government as part of the anti-terrorism budget. The only secrecy is they’re not Kiwis.

Nah, it’s just some MPAA and/or RIAA folks being passed off as government officials because they don’t want anyone to know they were directly involved and to what extent. They think they played it safe and can’t be identified, but the reality is they’re utterly wrong about that.

        • http://www.facebook.com/egnyquist Erik G. Nyquist

More likely, we’re looking at MPAA/RIAA people who ALSO have government jobs, as we saw with the US officials who are pressing this case.

It is not hard to notice that WikiLeaks including every one of its mirror sites is offline for over a week due to a totally massive DDoS attack. We also know that Demonoid also came under such a huge attack shortly before they were raided.

Two big signs that the US Government is now in the DDoS business or at minimum some well funded organization that they are aware of. Let us recall that DDoS is unlawful even if Government agents do it.

Can you guys imagine the irony if Hollywood decides to make a movie out of this case? You know when they stop doing movies on comic books and all.

    • Guest

I’m almost certain some kind of movie will be made out of this case some day, but I can practically guarantee it won’t be the MPAA producing or distributing it.  In fact, they’ll probably do everything they can to shut it down and/or prevent people from being able to watch it.

Such a movie would be a monument to one of their greatest failures, after all.

      • Colin Carr

Of course Hollywood will make the movie. But like so many other movies based on fact, those facts will be twisted out of all recognition. Kim Dotcom will be portrayed as using anti tank weapons against the two unarmed police who politely knocked on his front door…

        • Asswort

I’m looking forward to the scene where a drug-fueled Dotcom brutally rapes Swizz Beatz – who he keeps locked in his basement where he beats and rapes him every day until the brain damaged Grammy Award winning producer and rapper goes mad and starts to believe that he is in charge of Megaupload and the whole thing is a good idea.

In the final scene a tearful Beatz asks why Kim had to die, the top RIAA agent simply silently puts a hand on his shoulder and pushes him into the re-education truck… I mean FREE SPEECH WAGON.

        • Guest

Either that, or Dotcom will have been on the MPAA’s side, and was fighting against the government to enact stricter copyright laws.  It depends if he wins or loses.

      • ScrewEwe2

They’ll probably cast Kim as King Kong.

      • http://gene-poole.tumblr.com Gene Poole

Exactly why we won’t see a Pirate Bay movie in the style of The Boat That Rocked any time soon. Maybe the guys that replace the middle men of the MPAA once they finally die out will have some interest as a historical documentary.

although the main people involved in the raid itself were from NZ, it was undoubtedly concocted and executed by the US under directions from the entertainment industries. very senior US politician(s) were also directly involved, giving the go-ahead after convincing NZ to carry the raid out. anyone now like to hazard a guess at who was behind the Demonoid raid? i am still totally gobsmacked though that Interpol was brought in on this and that the ploy being to ‘combat organised criminals’. i was of the opinion that organised criminals either grew something, like drugs, made something, like dvds or executed scams of some sort. whatever the commodity was, it was sold for profit. perhaps someone can enlighten me as to exactly what Demonoid was selling? i am not aware of any payment for uploading, downloading or premium accounts, so that only leaves advertising, which hardly seems like the acts of ‘organised criminals’. the people involved have been stitched up just the sameas TPB people and Kim Dotcom by those that want to carry on controlling things the way they did for decades. to lie how they have to get law enforcement agencies involved, and world wide ones at that, shows how pathetic and worried they are that their grip is weakening. the whole truth will eventually come out. i just hope it is before the world has come under the rules of a single country, a single government, controlled by a single industry. the millions that died fighting to preserve freedom may just as well not bothered. it is being destroyed every day by self-interested arse holes that should crawl away somewhere and let the world evolve without them

DKC should get Micheal Moore to make this a movie. From the beginning of RIAA via the EQ curve for vinyl and the beginning of Hollywood, exposing the accounting systems they have, exposing the insidious licensing systems they have, exposing the lobbying done and laws created, exposing the huge amount of royalties not paid, exposing everything about these diabolical organizations. Naming names, Photos and showing the houses and assets these scumbags have acquired through the system they have designed over the last few decades. Bring it up to date with the attempted control of the internet via end user litigation, SOPA and TPP.

Michael Moore is an entertainer, and as such, he ain’t on our side. Even though his “Documentaries” try to show him as an American “every man” speaking on behalf of the 99%, he is part of the 1%. Michael Moore makes “Docutainment” and unfortunately, is pretty liberal with the stretching the truth at times.

      • Jon7272

and where did he stretch the truth .the one on the health system absolutaly correct if your poor you die no health care cos your out of work

        • ScrewEwe2

Jon, I’ve watched all of Michael Moores “documentaries over the years, and used to watch his short lived TV show. The film Manufacturing Dissent: Uncovering Michael Moore (2007) did a pretty good job of showing how Michael Moore has been telling half truths and outright lies in some of his works. His work is usually pretty entertaining but hardly can be called true documentaries, because the tradition of documentary films has been to try to stick to telling the truth, whereas Moores films could best be judged as “Edutainment” with a far left bent, just as what’s usually seen on Fox News is coming from a somewhat rightist viewpoint.

Here is a Movie review of “Manufacturing Dissent: Uncovering Michael Moore” From the websiteTime Out London:

Only a fool would think that Michael Moore is an exemplary documentary-maker. He’s a polemicist who’s prone to playing hard and fast with the truth for emotional and commercial effect. Nevertheless, some of the accusations in this documentary by a pair of Canadian filmmakers who initially set out to make a positive portrait, will make your eyes water, especially in the light of the recent crises at the BBC. There’s a lot of Moore-esque trailing of the big guy as they try and fail to get an interview with him during the 2004 US election campaign, but the real meat emerges from their analysis of particular episodes in his work. The staff of a bank featured in ‘Bowling for Columbine’ claim that the scenario in which Moore opens a bank account and leaves with a gun was a set-up, while, more seriously, there’s evidence that Moore did in fact interview Roger Smith of GM for ‘Roger and Me’, so negating the thrust of that film. Moore himself comes across as thoroughly unlikeable – but that’s news to nobody.
          http://www.timeout.com/film/reviews/84585/manufacturing-dissent-uncovering-michael-moore.html

Just for the record I’m politically middle of the road, socially very liberal and in my personal life fiscally conservative, out of necessity. I’ve got some Libertarian leanings but wouldn’t make a good Teabagger.

Personally, I feel that the Employer based health insurance system in the US is fundamentally flawed. I think that the so called “Obamacare” legislation did relatively little to address the healthcare problems we have. I wish that they would have made healthcare/insurance more like the Universal Care in other countries. All they did was make sure that the existing For Profit Health Insurance companies continue to rake in profits well into the future, corporate wellfare if you will. We will all go through potentially bankrupting health crises at some point in our lives and health insurance coverage should be a human necessity and human right, not a job related Perc. I have been a victim of pre-existing condition discrimination for well over 30 years and the fact that employer based health insurance has made it virtually impossible for me to be gainfully employed or buy private health insurance. On job interviews I was alway’s told that my resume and job experience were great, but unfortunately their health insurance would not cover me due to pre-existing conditions.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is a governmental agency belonging to the United States Department of Justice that serves as both a federal criminal investigative body and an internal intelligence agency (counterintelligence). Also, it is the government agency responsible for investigating crimes on Indian reservations in the United States[2] under the Major Crimes Act. The branch has investigative jurisdiction over violations of more than 200 categories of federal crime.

And all Jews who hit the showers before the Pearl Harbour are still dead.

I am not at all surprised by this and after what I have read recently the United States Government and more is about to get a lot of verbal abuse from me. A rare day indeed when I usually believe in fairness and respect.

So it has become clear that the US Administration has been doing wire-tapping as standard with no Court order granting them approval to do. That is without question unlawful and a major violation of the Bill of Rights. Congress certainly made a law saying that all wire-tapping must be done by Court order.

All well and nice but those retarded assholes in Congress FAILED to tick the box denying the Administration from declaring sovereign immunity. That means the FBI can unlawfully wire-tap your home for any reason they want and you cant sue them for this Bill of Rights violation. Even if they had wanted you to sue them then Congress stated NO PUNISHMENT for breaking their law.

So the day is at hand when the Government can spy on you in your bedroom and bathroom should they want to. It seems that 1984 and Catch 22 are but one day away. The Government should be fearing the people and not the other way around.

I have said it before and I will say it again but anyone who works against the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, the very foundations of American life, has no place calling themselves a US Citizen or pro-American. And for the US Administration to do this including the FBI makes them TRAITORS to the US public and the American way of life.

I am very mad here. I am someone who much welcomed Obama after the previous Presidency turned out to be a fucking disaster involving many cooked Muslims. I well recall how Obama early on promised us all how he would respect the law. It clear to see what a lying bastard he was spinning fairytales. He of course could fix these issues but no.

Dear Robert S. Mueller III head traitor in the FBI. KNOCK IT THE FUCK OFF OR FEEL MY WRATH! Prez.

I can tell you if I had Obama’s job that heads would roll. Instead I sit here growing more and concerned as each day passes with what the US Administration are up to when they seem to have little regard to public rights. Instead you are only numbers to be monitored, tracked, compiled and analysed.

The United States is a nice country with friendly people but what goes on in Washington DC does much worries me. Here I have only only touched on one point out of many. Anyone with any sense would not use US hosting or webmail at all.

I can already tell you what happened to Kim Dotcom when they invaded his computers, they broke into his Skype calls, they tapped his phone lines, and they did indeed watch this raid live on Kim’s own CCTV system. You would also be shitting out gold bars long before you would find a Court Order approving any of this.

    • http://profiles.google.com/zerianis10 Christopher Kidwell

Agreed on almost everything. I still think that Obama is better than McCain would have been but I’m getting seriously incensed at the guy for rolling over for Hollywood so much.

It’s about time that we BANNED contributions to politicians from businesses totally. They are NOT American citizens, though sometimes they are run by American citizens.

Only donations from private actual American citizens.

      • Fantastic

His Executive Orders that look to be enforcing the internet censorship legislation that was defeated and the Orders that look to be allowing the snooping into our private electronic information from the “Cyber Security” bill that was also defeated  are increasingly unsettling. Very much agreed on the banning of contributions from groups and and putting very tight restrictions on personal donations.

        • http://www.facebook.com/egnyquist Erik G. Nyquist

Then they’ll just be under the table and secret again, like in the old days.  You can’t stamp out corruption by passing laws against it; it is by it’s very nature something that sidesteps and generally avoids the law.

But on the other hand, as our democracy in the US exists, the only way to get elected is to get the financial support of some major money groups- be it Hollywood, be it the Koch brothers, Murdoch Inc., or labor unions.  And of course, no  politician who gets elected twice will refuse to dance with the girl that brung ‘em.     So removing that neccessity would be good.

The most elegant way to do that, in my opinion, would be to enact strict and rigid term limits for ALL high elected offices- senators and congressmen.

      • Hmm234

its all legal, afterall thats why banks have to pay bonuses to their employees. then the employees go to banquets and buy 2k tickets from their x00k+ bonuses, as the highest allowed sum a single person can contribute.

      • ScrewEwe2

That’s a nice idea Christopher, but as long as the people who recieve the donations write the rules and make the laws, nothing will change. This will probably be the first time in my adult life that I won’t cast a Presidential vote for an actual candidate. Still thinking of doing a write in vote for Clinton, George Clinton PFD.

        • http://profiles.google.com/zerianis10 Christopher Kidwell

Wrong, ScrewEwe2. There IS a method where a law, written by the public, can be forced to be voted on in the United States. It’s just exceedingly rarely used but today? Time to use it.

        • Monster

I have the same stance. This will be the first time I haven’t voted since I turned 18. It doesn’t matter anymore..they are all liars & have their own agendas. Once they get into office they do what ever the fuck they want.  we need to organize a 10 million man armed march!. March on the white house and execute all these fucking liars.

      • http://gene-poole.tumblr.com Gene Poole

Rolling over is only the half of it. Obama’s administration has also used the Espionage Act to persecute whistleblowers, and has done so 6 times while in office, which is double the amount it’s ever been used before in the entire history of the United States.

    • Ghost

Never a truer word spoken! Politicians are for all intents and purposes Professional Liars – that is what the job boils down too. A politician does not know what is best for you or the country nor do they care. The ones at the top of the heap are there to line their pockets only, the ones at the bottom are trying to get to the top. If the bank accounts and assets were open to public scrutiny things would be slightly different. A wonderful system built by and made for the ruling elite class.

      • http://profiles.google.com/zerianis10 Christopher Kidwell

I agree that they don’t know what is ‘best for the country’ because on almost all things, that is a matter of viewpoint.

However, there are some things that the weight of the majority should make our officials say “Hey, maybe we had better go with this or risk being removed…. by force!”

Yes, that is a reasonable and legitimate thing there, the ‘by force’. Our Founders specifically said that it was a reasonable and legitimate thing.

    • Jimbo

Obama is up to his neck in all this as well, so why would he even bollock anyone, let alone ‘make heads roll’? how much contribution did he get from the industries last time? how much will he get this time? all it’s about is staying in charge, regardless of how that is achieved. i really never could understand why every government just about is siding with those industries. i have even less understanding now of why international law enforcement are doing the same. consider the serious problems we have worldwide and now explain why all those problems, terrorism, threat of nuclear war, famine, further global financial meltdown, global warming, floods and they all pale to the despicable crime of FILE SHARING. so strange!

    • Ophelia Millais

I think you meant crooked, not cooked. :)

      • Violated0

No I do mean “cooked” as in the Americans dropping bombs on them followed by explosions, fire, screaming and dying.

During Gulf War 2 I did have some American bombers fly over my house when early on the UK was the closest country that would allow them to fly from. It seems likely that they bombed the Iraqi troops. These heavy bombers soon relocated to launching from somewhere in the Gulf region I recall.

        • Ophelia Millais

          Heh, OK :)

    • Mwhahaha

The Obama thing is a tricky one, cos he’s been a major let down for liberals, but Romney could possibly be the man who ended up pressing The Button, so what can you do?

The devil you know or the weirdo-mormon-tax-fiddling-lying-stupid bastard you don’t?

      • Violated0

The problem is in how the American political system is structured allowing you to tolerate failure in your leader. They get their 4 to 8 years and they can be as good or as bad as they want to be when they only need to avoid impeachment.

The political system in the UK is very different when we don’t directly elect our country’s leader when we instead elect politicians who form parties and who vote in their own party leader. We of course know who will become Prime Minister before voting when they are the leader of the political party that you vote in the local politician of depending on majority rule.

This is the key difference when since the party voted for him or her to be their leader then so can they easily replace this leader should they believe that another elected party member can do a better job.

What this means is that failure in the PM and their cabinet members is not tolerated when in fact members on both side of the house are actively trying to provoke them to fail. That sure keeps them on their toes when their job could be taken by someone better at any time.

So that is the flaw in the US political system.

SOPA/PIPA failed in January.  Hollywood raged.  Obama had major Hollywood fund raising scheduled for February, March, and April.  Megaupload raid happened a day or so after the SOPA/PIPA protest.  You do the math.

Let’s hope this is a watershed moment. The way media piracy has corrupted a brilliant global network into “we can get free movies and stuff if we hide!” is one of the repeating sad lessons of human nature. There will always be a thief to f*ck up something great that others built. It’s a part of all of history. You should read it to better understand where we are in the process.

There will be no “rights” distinction between tangible and intangible goods except for fair use and other crucial rights of public access. But barring those, intellectual property has value and price as any other, and will have, and pirates will either see this as the way things really are, or they won’t and thus continue to compel the greatest crackdown since Soviet Russia, except this time it’s going global. Kim Dotcom is an empty, bs posterboy. An easy mark with a previous record, but he’ll mark the precedent just fine. Government is getting started now. Pirates? You f*cked up.

    • Anon

Pirates?  nope.    the avg. person will feel the major pain of the laws/precedents that will be put in place to fight the “pirates” even tho it will do nothing in the overall picture.

if they want to stop piracy they would have to cut all the cables and kill all the networks. (not going to happen since just about every gov. needs it for something or another.)

even then I wouldn’t be shocked to see a homebrew wi-fi type internet to pop up and branch into a near by country to get back to the internet.

      • http://gene-poole.tumblr.com Gene Poole

wireless mesh networks. Already on the way. see: pirate box.

    • Gear Mentation

The problem with this analysis is that all the power is in the hands of the culture, that is those who claim the right to share our culture freely.  Because we CAN hide, the dynamic has changed.  It’s a new world.  Also, you are being anti-democratic.  The people have spoken relative to whether they agree with current copyright law.  Trying to brand much of the world as thieves is merely to say that the law on thievery needs to be changed.

      • Anon

“Because we CAN hide, the dynamic has changed.”

        wow.
What a misguided, boneheaded notion. You appear to be saying “you can’t stop me” to the very society that elects the governments that have decided to return a price where value lies, regardless of your precious “privacies”. You appear to be openly daring them to license VPN’s, encryption, BPI if that is what takes in your scenario, talk about living in 2002. Keep daring government to take away your tools as you invent them and then abuse them, you idiot. It’s like speeding on the highway and daring government to take steps to slow you down. Are you another entitled fool?

        yeah. you are.
Pirates are damaged. And stupid in the face of reality. This is pretty good evidence.

        • Gear Mentation

What we, the 99.99% now know to question is whether the laws which support large corporations are laws which actually deserve the name “democratic.”  We know they don’t.  We the people did not really make them.  We just didn’t rise up strenuously enough when corporations placed those laws on our shoulders.  You  who defend the .01% and corporations better hope the economy continues to limp along in spite of your attempts to bleed your consumer base dry, or else we WILL rise up, empowered by that very communication system which you are now attempting to take from us.

        • MadAsASnake

Not bone headed. Many countries actually have laws or constitutions preventing the passing of laws that would
a.) criminalise most of the population – or -
          b.) be unenforceable
SOPA / PIPA etc would probably fail both those tests, as is the DEA and HADOPI. This is why wheels aren’t under patent and no-one charges us for air.

        • Bert

As the Great Max Keiser has predicted, the Price Level of ‘Pap’ media is going to zero, no doubt about it :)  I dont think that the Cesspit of Corruption that the USG has become will change that, it is after all a function of the ‘Market’ and is that not Still the Chief Deity of the USA ?

don’t know about that, the anonymous pirates seem pretty efficient and organized on the net. It’s all about the democracy of digital content, if people don’t want their copyrighted material pirated, don’t put it on the fucken net. There are other options like hard bound books or software dedicated to specific hardware, they need to find a medium or solution other than the net, because the bandwidth belongs to the people not to corporations.

      • Fredrika

        > “Piracy is not democracy, it’s anarchy.”

Most people studied history in elementary school, and most understood it as well. Had you done both, and also remembered it, you should know that if there is one thing that has stood out as something that always goes hand in hand with democracy in action, it would be the disobedience of illegitimate legislation, such as the non-profit parts of today’s copyright monopoly, so piracy is indeed something which could be called the equivalent of democracy.

Acting according to the free market rules and disregarding an illegitimate legislative monopoly’s intrusion into one’s property however, a monopoly that regulates manufacturing and distribution of luxury items, through civil law, that most certainly isn’t something which can be called anarchy, at least not according to any of the known meanings of the word. You see, the mere fact that something happens to be unlawful doesn’t automatically make it anarchy. if so you yourself would be an anarchist, because as you have openly admitted, you violate laws all the time, whenever you feel like it.

But you often seem to completely lack such fundamental basic knowledge which most people usually both learn and remember from history, civics and social studies in elementary school.

      • Guest

And SWAT teams descending upon someone’s house out of nowhere, with monitoring by a non-local investigative group, is democracy?

Do you think the US will EVER start minding its own busienss and deal with its own problems.

    in-privacy.tk

  • foff

So where is this leading?  Other than the fact that the New Zealand police and special forces made total asses of themselves and showed how incompetent they are because they could not appropriately asses a threat.

The whole raid was orchestrated by the US,  They knew no force was required but used this raid as a pr and intimidation factor.  Look how many cyber pussy lockers closed up quickly without even so much as a threat.

Look at the demonoid situation.  We clearly have  government guerilla warefare going on here.  First the site is massively ddos’ed for no reason.  Then Ukraine government for no reason takes an interest (the excuse of someone visiting the states is pure bullshit) then the rumors of Mexican arrests which cannot be proven.

So what we have here is another intimidation stunt.  Indirectly the US is saying to other torrent sites look what we did to demoniod you might be next.  Time will tell how many other sites feel the intimidation and close shop in the next few weeks.

Like all wars this won’t last.  Once they think the torrent sites and cyber lockers are decimated they will turn their attention to other things and the sharing community will also find other perhaps less decentralized ways of sharing, but certainly we will rebuild and continue sharing.  One temporary fall out is that the internet may see a large temporary decline in internet traffic and this will affect all the companies that rely on internet traffic for revenue.  I, for one am already reducing the time I spend on the net significantly.

    • WasterOfTime

      They’re mobsters. Simple enough.

Let’s mob them. They won’t expect mobs from pirates; after all, we didn’t expect the mob to pirate stuff themselves.

    Why use encrypted radio?
Why need supervision from the US?

They called it a low risk operation, it’s not a dictator or an arms dealer or a drug lord, it’s a guy in a mansion.

So why all the secrecy and US involvement?
They must have had something to hide.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some new wikileak about the US placing fake evidence at his mansion or something else later.

    • Kiwi1956xx66

My guess is that the secret video feed that the senior police inspector would not give any details of was live video from USA spy satellites, looking down on the Dotcom Mansion.

The USA has provided NZ Police satellite footage of NZ crime scenes in the past to help with investigations on the condition they are never discussed or release to the public.  Take google maps aerial view, times by 1000 and make it a live video feed.  I speculate that is what the secret video was and why the NZ Judge allowed the information to be suppressed from the public, due to USA national security interests.  If the NZ Police had head mounted cameras during the raid with NZ’s own technology the judge would probably not allow it to be suppressed.

FBI are just a bunch of friggin ass clowns at this point. They were all tripping over themselves to score a couple of brownie points do what ultimately? Bring down a company?

This is a case of career guys at the FBI needing a couple of feathers in their cap to upgrade their pay scale and position, and that my friend is the problem of unsupervised actors motivated by political pressure to do the unreasonable.

You’d think there would be some form of review or system of accountability in the planning stages of the raid. I can just imagine there were a couple of FBI guys and analyst that timidly raised their hands among those principles that advocated a less aggressive route.

You know, Dotcom is not a sympathetic figure.  I mean, his lifestyle and flamboyant excesses mirror that of drug lords and high-profile criminals of that nature.  And yet, of course, he really wasn’t one of the ones of that nature.

The irony I find truly hilarious is that, as sleazy as Dotcom is, the people who organized and executed his take-down are only coming across as even sleazier, to the degree that this fiasco has become something of a national embarrassment to NZ’s government.

I wonder if at the end of this, a lesson will be learned by all about the dangers ignoring government corruption?
