Their coverage was also impressive for a relatively smalls site. Why wouldn’t you get involved when open signups are offered? I shudder at the thought of using a site like Piratebay for big files these days, too many leechers and poor seeders.

Private trackers have dedicated uploaders with super fast connections (a requirement for uploaders). And seeders have to meet site rules on ratios. I have been on private trackers for the last 10 years and the speeds cannot be bested by an open tracker. Downloads take anything from 3 to 4 to god knows how much longer on open trackers because the majority of users bugger off as soon as they have their content.
