We’re not asking for money this time, just a petition that needs to be signed. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) started collecting signatures for a petition, trying to stop the RIAA from destroying lives.

A great initiative, if you support it, sign it. If the EFF reaches their target of 100.000 signatures they will deliver the petition to the Senate and House Commerce and Judiciary Commitees. Here’s a snippet from the petition:

We condemn the RIAA’s choice to force the family of a 12 year-old girl to forfeit $2,000 – money that could have gone to feed, clothe and educate this honor student. We stand with the retirees, parents, children and others who have been caught in the RIAA’s line of fire.

Sign It

And if you have a little money left you might want to donate a dollar (or more) to Patti Santangelo. Patti is the New York working mother with five children who’s decided to fight the RIAA in court.

I’m a true music and movie lover but I refuse to pay too much money for music and movies that ain’t worth the price the industry is asking, but when I see something like the Lord Of The Rings trilogy I’ll buy it,it’s worth every penny

I almost always buy music I love unless it is very rare and I can’t seem to find it in the store or internet. The RIAA has gone too far, and they to try to settle problems with families, not sue them!

I don’t mean to sound condesending(sp?) but the easiest way to deal with the RIAA is “do nothing.” For some period of time, everyone just stop buying. This in turn will put them out of business and once they are gone we can let the artists, the actual creators of music, take over.

It perfectly legal, avoids all the lawyer crap and its actually quite easy.

TO MATT:
That is incredibly intelligent and insightful!

Im in the industry and can say MOST Artist DO NOT agree with the RIAA at all. The RIAA is a Greed Machine that looks after Record Companies and could care less about the Artist. I for one do not recall signing over my copyright to the RIAA.
