Filesharing gains popularity in Japan

Filesharing is getting more popular in Japan according to a recent survey by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). 3.5 percent of the Japanese Internet users is actively using p2p software to share files, compared to 2.7 percent last year.

The most popular filesharing application in Japan is Winny, BitTorrent is less popular in Japan. According to the survey only 6 percent of the Japanese filesharers uses BitTorrent.

However, since BitTorrent is the best p2p protocol to distribure large files, it still generates almost 50 percent of the p2p traffic according to chachelogic’s data.
